Getting ready to dump McAfee (yeah, I know I should have done it a long time ago) and replacing it with Bitdefender Total Security.

    Any thoughts on Bitdefender?

Vault is a cryto place on your drive for 'secret' stuff. Unfortunately if the PC crashes, no way to recover. You can't back it up. I just use a notebook for secret stuff, backed up. Most financial places are using secondary verification so the vault doesn't help much. None of it is hack proof. I did use kapersky until it got hard to get. Both are good protection.
The VPN would be nice but it goes through a commercial server as man in the middle.

I use it plus vault. But I use vault for convenience and have my passwords backed up on two offline forms of media (one onsite and another offsite).

Correct, which is why I have a back up drive in my safe that mirrors my PC within a couple of days max. Nothing is 100%, but I want to take as many precautions as I can.

I've used Bitdefender for several years because it is highly rated. It seemed to work pretty good - at least I didn't have virus problems. But the machine I was using was no powerhouse to begin with and was getting old (Win7). Bitdefender ate up a noticeable amount of resources and really slowed down the machine. It also insists on updating it's files every single day, and the download is huge. I had to let the computer run for 20 minutes or more before I could use it and not have slow downs. So if your computer is older or you have slow internet, I would not recommend Bitdefender.

Just recently upgraded to a new computer - in part because Win7 is no longer supported after this year. Also added a wifi mesh to improve the internet connection. Was going to install Bitdefender, but found out that my provider makes Norton available for free. Checking the ratings, Norton is one of the best, so it's been an easy choice.

No problems with it so far. Only been about 8 months or so now but, it did catch a few things that McAfee missed.

I've been using Norton for 15 years and it has done a good job for me. But it has started to get annoying with all the pop up ads and reminders. I will be dumping Norton soon, when my annual subscription expires. The free Windows Defender that comes with Win 10 has improved a lot over the years, and I will be using that along with a paid subscription to Malware Bytes.

just use the built in windows 10 stuff and call it a day. It has a good reputation and the smallest impact on performance.

unless you frequent porn hacking or other dangerous pages.

Does that refer to Win10 or Bitdefender, cause all the latest comparisons I am seeing have Bitdefender at the top.

I know nothing about bitdefender. But if you are getting your info from pay to play I am sure Microsoft defender is not there and is bashed.

I've had bitdefender for 3 years. It covers my computer, tablet and 3 cell phones. It seems to work fine. I havent had any issues yet.

BitDefender is solid but I have found Webroot to be significantly less resource intensive and better. While BitDefender is already fairly light, Webroot is even lighter. Ive used quite a few and I'd say Webroot > BitDefender > Panda for my top 3 picks for AV. These days I only have one Windows box left of everything, but just don't ever use the built in Windows Defender as a primary means to protection.
