If you thought the FBI listening in on your phone was bad ......

"The flaws in Samsung Smart TVs, which have now been patched, enabled hackers to remotely turn on the TVs' built-in cameras without leaving any trace of it on the screen. While you're watching TV, a hacker anywhere around the world could have been watching you. Hackers also could have easily rerouted an unsuspecting user to a malicious website to steal bank account information."

I generally fall in line with the tin foilers on here. However, my sister-in-law is the tin-foil queen.
When she comes to visit, she puts a towel over our TV so that the government cannot watch her.

Note: this is our 10 year old 17" tube TV!

Uh, y'all do know that IP-enabled cameras are often sold without any security and most of the ones that do...no one bothers to change the default password?

There are web sites dedicated to indexing those cameras. If you have a remote monitor security camera or any webcam that you just plugged in, it worked, and you left it at that then it's a good bet that someone besides you, somewhere in the world, has watched it without you knowing.

(Yes, I know. Webcams are much harder to crack these days. But security cameras today are about as safe as webcams not long after webcams were first introduced.)

Yeah, if your TV doesn't have a camera that's pretty much impossible.

Our Kinect is physically unplugged 100% of the time the kids aren't playing a game with it.

This is the same for any device that's internet connected and runs computer based commands like computers, newer cars, automate houses, airplane navigation systems, etc. Also, the electrical system in your house can be used as a data network.
