On May 5, 1892 a young man named Robert Oppenheimer Smith-Rodriguez Jr, an engineer for Smith & Wesson, travelled from Kansas City, Missouri to Topeka, Kansas to meet with one John Moses Browning. Along the way he was accosted by three hood wearing ruffians armed with Colt single action army pistols. ROSR Jr was armed with a Smith & Wesson model 1891 prototype, which was chambered in .30 Smith & Wesson Long - another prototype round. The gun was a sleek little single action semi-automatic that featured an 8 round magazine and ambidextrous thumb safeties. ROSR Jr. used this prototype gun to deftly defend himself, putting three robbers in their graves. Investigating marshals confiscated Mr. Smith-Rodriguez' gun as evidence, and despite the political pull of Smith & Wesson, authorities would not release the prototype back to the company or their representative. The gun was eventually recovered after a successful lawsuit in 1905. That gun and the blueprints were tucked away in a vault, and it was not until 2018 did they find it, when some interns were organizing said vault. That gun became the inspiration for the .30 Super Carry and Smith & Wesson's modern pistols thusly chambered. A statue of Mr. Smith-Rodriguez sits in the corner of the CEO's office today as a gentle reminder of the lives saved and the ingenuity held by Smith & Wesson.

9mm all the way.

One of the 30SC’s big selling points is extra round capacity. This it does but only by one or two rounds. Modern hi-cap 9’s carry quite a few rounds already. One or two more really doesn’t mean much.
The 30SC gets its ballistic performance from very high chamber pressure. The resulting muzzle blast, flash, concussion is unpleasant, especially in an enclosed space such as an indoor range. Said bluntly it is an obnoxious thing to fire.
Ammo selection is limited. 9mm beats this all to heck. 9mm has dozens of bullet types and brands available. You can even go to +P if you just gotta.
You’re going to want to shoot the thing. Go with the more practical caliber.
Resale: good luck or selling or trading a 30SC.

Rumor has it that Alpha Chad Governess Kristi Noem used .30 Super Carry to put down her aggressive dog after it bit her neighbor. One-shot stopped the dog from 40 yards. She credited her Vortex Viper red dot sight for letting her aim precisely, but she credited Federal and Smith & Wesson for giving her the stopping power and light weight, easy handling pistol needed for the task. That part just didn't make it into the final edition of the book.
