The Texas Forces Museum at Camp Mabry in Austin says the effective range of the Colt M1917 is exactly 38 yards.

Well, I have a Colt M1917 handy. Along with some steel case .45 ACP, a moon clip and a moon clip deloader.

First at 39 yards.

Sorry for the potato range finder pics. It is hard to take a phone pic through a rangefinder.

The aiming pipper was on him when I hit the laze button.

Hmmmm. Not so good.

Got his arm though.

Haven't had my 1917 out to the range since early last October. Have to correct that in the next week or two.

Per the U.S. Army, the effective range of the 1911 was 27 yards.

I’ll have to take my S&W 1917 to the range & see what it can do at 39 yards.
