I walked into my LGS earlier this week to buy some reloading supplies and made the mistake of checking out their current inventory. I've been itching for a full size .45 ACP and I happened to come across this:

Of course I had to take a closer look. I immediately fell in love. XD45 Tactical Mod 2. Got it and a Lee .45 die set for a total of $400.

The newest manufactured XD's assume you have learned which end to hold. Here's a comparison between my 2 subcompacts:

The Tactical I just bought is new, but was manufactured before the removal of "grip zone."

    .45 is my love!
What can you do with any other auto that you cannot do with a .45?

.45acp is the only way to go. I am partial to Government Model 1911's.
in 2014 , Illinois finally approved Concealed Carry for common folk. Really expensive and extensive to get a permit. It took 16 hours of classroom and then range (shooting proficiency) time with a certified State Police Instructor. You had to provide your own handgun, ammo and holster. My Training Officer took one look at what I brought, got a big smile on his face and said, "what in the world are you toting that chunk of pig-iron for?" i looked down at my WWII issue Remington-Rand 1911a1, What are you talking about? He produced his Glock with a smile. I am not a fan of Glock of any kind. I told him what is that? He said that mine was too heavy and only had 8 shots. I laughed and said that he needed to shoot better and heavy is only a matter of what you are used to. Besides this old Colt will out last that plastic toy. I made him a bet, I said, let's take our pieces out here on Route 120 and throw them out on the pavement and let traffic run over them for a while and I will tell you which one still works! He didn't want to do that. He then told me that they weren't accurate. I just said, with which hand?
I was in the first group to be issued a Concealed Carry Permit in Illinois.
However.... My permit expired on the first of March. I applied for a renewal and paid the fees and attended the required re-training filled out the forms and it was denied. Hey... it is ILLINOIS!
