We have an old abandoned Aermotor windmill on the family property that I need to get rid of. I have no idea if it's functional or restorable or what. I do know that it's been there for at least 60 years, probably more, and that the blades still turn and seem to be in reasonably decent shape, considering.

Is this worth anything to anybody? I have no way of taking it down and/or transporting it, so whoever gets it will have to do that themselves. Is this something I'm going to have to pay to get hauled away, or is it worth some amount, even if marginal, for somebody to pay me to allow them to take it?

    Thanks!

I think you'll be able to find someone to give you money for it and take it down and haul it off. That looks to be in pretty good shape. It will be used for decoration if nothing else.

Dear Sir is your item still available for purchase?
I can send cashier check but it will be for $2456 US more than your price, so you can just send me $300 US back and keep the rest for your trouble, then I will contact my shipper to arrange pickup of the item.
    Sincerely

Oh man, I've done the craigslist thing before and every time I do, I regret it. Even giving away stuff for free becomes a headache.

I think you gotta weed the chaff. I just sold a $6500 Cycle on CL from an out of town buyer. I think we had 2-3 phone calls and 3 texts over it. Worked out great.

There are exceptions, but I have had the same trouble on selling apps such as 5Miles, etc. People saying they will pay through Paypal and give me an address to ship to. I did sell like 14 Sharp solar panels to a guy, but we talked on the phone and texted. He also came to the house to pick up, so there is that.

It’s likely worth $1k or so assuming it’s in decent shape, but it’s heavy as hell and will need a crane to safely remove.

Thanks, exactly what I was looking for.

As I kid, I remember watching a couple of windmills being erected basically using two tractors and a winch. They'd attach cables to the frame and one tractor/winch would pull while the other (others?) kept tension. Seemed awfully sketchy to 6 year old me but it worked. I assume taking them down is the same thing in reverse, but I don't know. A crane would certainly make things easier.

Oh man, I've done the craigslist thing before and every time I do, I regret it. Even giving away stuff for free becomes a headache.

My youngest daughter and her mother (my dear wife, bless her pea picking heart), and foolishly, said I, sold her late 90's Subaru on CL, without mentioning it to me, and while I was working out of town.

The male of the couple who answered the CL ad, "flew in from DFW" (sure, he did), looked at it, did the deal and gave them a cashiers check for $5k (yeah right, bet that's good), and left with it to "drive back to Dallas" (sure, he did).

I ranted like hell, like any sensible good father would ... until the check cleared the bank two days later.

Although I did manage to convince them not to touch the money until a couple of weeks passed and the bank assured them that any chance of fraud was well past.

The entire scenario was so wrong headed and screaming of a scam, but ...

God sometimes protects fools, and the naive ... although it has become harder to convince them that I am ALWAYS right.

BTW, if we weren't in the process of the selling the old place in Grimes Cty, I'd love to have that windmill ... just for posterity's sake.

Symbol of what Texas once was, everywhere you looked.

Buddy of mine in Washington hooked a generator up to one like that. The windmill and his solar panels are part of his system to where he sells power and rarely buys.
