It happened in an office for School Resource Officers as he began to unload it. After removing the magazine, the officer failed to eject the round of ammunition from the chamber and accidentally discharged the handgun.

Why would an officer disarm in a school?

He just wanted to be transferred out as a SRO and they originally told him no. He showed them. I want to hear more on why he unholstered and unloaded.

You folks in this area ought have a spokesperson to opine to the newspapers and the TV news about the proper way to handle any firearm. Firearms don't kill people; people kill people, and sometimes use a firearm. This incident also raises issues about the quality of persons hired as Police officers. Proper handling of a firearm was ignored in this case and it should be made clear: ALWAYS make sure a firearm is *not loaded before handling it. I not suggesting the officer be made in to an example. I am suggesting the public and its elected officials intelligently examine this *incident and what this incident says about the proper use of a firearm, the proper handling of a firearm, and the competence of the firearm handler. There is enough mis-information out there from 'gun-control" types, the news media, and politicians to to go around. Inform.
