Move off the x and shoot.
My combat instructor has a saying , slow is smooth, smooth is fast. I find it works from hand to hand to shooting and everything in between.If I had to make a choice, I'll choose accuracy over speed every time. But with practice, one does or should also improve their speed along with being accurate.

Sadly this seems to be the policy of many gun ranges. I'm sure it has to do with their perceived idea of range safety, or possibly due to how their insurance coverage dictates they do things.As I've gotten older, my speed has suffered as has my accuracy.
