I don't know ANYTHING about the round or this particular rifle. I'm looking for something that my Wife might be interested in (and me too..) and this looks nifty
anyone here familiar with .17HMR and/or this model ?
I have been shooting .22lr for about the last year or so out of a Savage Mk II F to get rifle basics down and not break the bank. I am considering selling it and picking up another Savage but in .17HMR. I have read that they are more accurate, especially @ 100 yards, than the .22lr.
As far as the quality of the Savages, I have no complaints. They are probably the best bang for the buck in the "starter rifle" market.
Savage makes a good gun. The 17 HMR is a super flat shooting round and accurate.
The downfalls are too many for me to keep the one I had or get another one. They are loud. Think centerfire rifle loud. They are not reloadable. The bores foul quickly and lose accuracy when they do. A bore snake is your friend with them.

thanks to both, for the replies. I'm ordering the rifle today. loudness won't be a factor as all shooting will be at a range and hearing protection will be worn.
I'll be sure to peruse the recommended link (above) - looks like there's a lot of ammo info
