I went to Dallas the last time they had the NRA convention. It was a lot of fun. Some observations:
- Dallas roads were designed by people on LSD. They make no sense and if you try to use a GPS, get used to it repeating, "In 400 feet, make a U-turn..."
- Crime went down 40% in the area during the convention. Most people were armed. That's how it works.
- There were busses taking people from local hotels to the KBH center and back. They were VERY slow. Be patient.
- People were straining to get pictures of protestors, because all of the media outlets were going on and on about how many protestors there might be. At the KBH, there were exactly 2 protestors. They were really nice people - if a bit misguided - and they happily let people pose with them for selfies.
- Before the convention opened, the Star Spangled Banner was played. The PA system quit, so the attendees sang loud enough to make up for it. It was a beautiful moment.
- There was one protest way outside of the convention center. Alyssa Milano held a protest in a small park. The Dallas police and her security contingent were larger than the people attending it. When one man pointed out that she had armed guards and didn't that make her a hypocrite, he was ordered to leave. He pointed out that he had a 1st Amendment right, but he left peacefully - escorted by half a dozen guards and police. The group at her rally were actually holding anti-Trump signs, not anti-gun signs.
- Trump made a speech, but you couldn't go in the hall if you were armed because of the Secret Service. Meanwhile, his son was wandering around the vendors hall, meeting with people here and there, with a small contingent of some sort of security, but not a care in the world despite being in the middle of tens of thousands of armed people.
- It may be just me, but Dallas seems to be about twice as expensive for everything versus Houston.
- The people who attend NRA conventions are just about the nicest and easiest to get along with that I've ever met.
- The last Houston convention had a large turnout of protestors - maybe 100 or more. The media pretended it was a lot more, but there were large crowds in the area for school graduations and they were counted in order to inflate the numbers. Houston PD is surprisingly good at handling protests.

Yep I remember this as this was spreaded like wildfire.
It is such an awesome event to attend and have never once been disappointed. I love meeting all the gun personalities like Eva Flannel and Colon Noir and Kendall Jones.

Texas Public Radio station KERA spoke to one gun control activist who isn't just upset that there'll soon be 14 acres of guns and gear on display, but that (gasp!) the meetings are a family affair for many attendees....
“From entertainment to special events, it’s all happening in Dallas!” the event website says. “Make plans now to join fellow Second Amendment patriots for a freedom-filled weekend for the entire family!”
But not everyone believes the weekend should be family oriented — and some say the association is pushing its message on a vulnerable population.
“They are actually marketing to children because they are encouraging their attendees to bring their…entire family,” gun violence prevention advocate Miriam Sharma told KERA. “Its not even hiding it.”

I look forward to bringing my oldest daughter with her team shirt and my youngest who just became a Clover Kid 4H member and will follow her big sister's lead.
Hell, my oldest daughter after doing her tour with 4H, SCTP, and NSCA is doing not only well but above my expectations and will enter a college shooting team while pursuing her degree. In California and Illinois, my daughter would be a felon for posting her team pics.
