    From the Trans-Sabine:

Years back, my Nueces County Native Wife decided she wanted to live here on the Bayou.

Shortly after moving-in, I had occasion to ask one of the few folks I knew here about a person’s reputation. She quickly admonished me: ’’We don’t discuss those things here!’’

I inquired as to why not?

Her quick reply was a real classic: ‘’This is a very, very small town, everyone here is kin to one-another. Anything that you say will get back to them. They’re all either first Cousins, double first Cousins, having sex with one-another; or ALL THREE !’’

But I got that great quote !

Initials for starters, you put 2 and 2 together.

Years ago it was not unusual for a well known Bluegrass star to travel without a band and hire local musicians to back him up at the gig. The band in Houston I was playing with at the time was hired to play a gig doing just that.

This East Texas town/area had a good sized venue for shows, and apparently still does. It was well known that most of the local residents were inbred.

Looking out at the audience from the stage still conjures up the hebbie jeebies … have seen some weird audiences, but the looks of that one is still haunting 50 years later.

Hell, it’s probably now the size of Houston at the time, and full of transplants ….
