Okay since I have been chewed on by a fire ant I went and looked around our small property and have discovered many fire ant mounds. Can't have that since I have dogs that spend time outside. What is the best Fire Ant killer at the home improvement store?

If you have dogs, you should be careful about what you put out. I have used diatomaceous earth with good results. It's not harmful to anything but insects.

I have a dog. I supervise outside time for the following day or two. By the time ants have taken in all the granules or they granules have been washed out by rain/sprinklers or the sun. That short amount of time is enough to take care of a mound.

This....also handy if the pesky bugger's get in your veggie garden and you don't feel like nomming on poison.

Once the ants are all gone (~2 weeks). I water the mound flat with a garden hose. Grass will start to grow over the dirt patch, fairly quick.

I got some Talstar form doyourownpestcontrol.com, Bifenthrin is the same thing. I got it to spray for mosquitos. Awesome. Tried it on carpenter bees. Even better. Shot it into a fire ant mound - dead in an hour. Awesome stuff, and rated for use in food prep areas. Safe for pets as long as you let it dry before you let the pets into the area you sprayed.

My cousin uses their granular product for mosquitos with a handheld spreader - hits his yard once a month - no problems.

Call this number and ask what they recommend. They have been great at providing products that kill the animals I'm trying to control while not harming anything else.

Been there before. I've noticed, once I've used Amdro to get rid of the fire ants, my neighbors start to have fire ant problems.
