It's been quite a while since I've dealt with male cat spray and maybe things have changed. Other than acute lead poisoning, how have you successfully kept them away?

    Trap, neuter, release (TNR)

we have a organization in town that loans traps exclusively for that purpose

    1. pick up trap
    2. bait trap
    3. take trapped cat (still in trap) to the organization
    - where cat is neutered and given rabies shot, then cat’s ear is clipped to indicate so
    4. release cat and return empty trap to organization

    repeat as necessary

soon there will be less cats and those you do happen to see won’t be a-sprayin’

here’s one that frequents our back yard (could it be the food and shelter we provide?)

the left ear is clipped (hard to see in this pic) and the cat enjoys has looking at the indoor cat

The city of Garland does the same thing. But, they trap the cats not us.

They neuter them, clip the ear and release them in the neighborhood where they
trapped them. The cats can't breed and they keep the rats/mice, snakes and
other critters except the cougars, not the old women kind, and coyotes, away
from our houses. We, the wife, adopted one and she, the cat, stays outside, mostly,
during the day and inside during the night and bad weather. She has taken over the
    guest bedroom.

Picture shows her bedroom and the clipped ear.

    Out here by the lake!
As a responsible dog owner I never understood crats getting free rein of the neighborhood. Crats are predators and are more likely to get in contact with other critters that could have rabies. And with their size are less intimidating to small kids, who could easily be scratched or bit.

I have a dedicated Lawn Lion rifle from when I worked the renfest, an Integrally Suppressed scoped Ruger 77/22. The Rennies show up with all kinds "pets". I have seen them with mice, rats, snakes crats & puppies. Many of them don't own vehicles because they are out of society. When its time to leave they leave their animals behind because who they catch a ride with aint having it, so there they stay to fend for themselves.

Those where the good times & that came to an end years ago.

Are we still talking about feral cats?
    Why...of course............

I don't mind cats clawing on my vehicles (especially my soft top Jeep) shitting in my yard or killing birds at my feeder..............

We had a Siamese, named Sam who lived with us just shy of 21 years before she passed......a good cat. Neighbors never knew we had her because we didn't want anything to happen to her and kept her inside...........

Gotcha covered. A buddy of mine used these for deer. They worked, but he said they figured out the range and just stayed outside that. Find other hilarious YT videos of these in use:
