The election can't be won only by a candidate's "base". That candidate has to win the swing voters, who don't pay attention to diddly-shit except what's on the news. Trump is tainted for them. 80%+ unfavorable coverage since 2016, multiple attempts at criminal charges, two impeachments (however bogus and embarrassingly weak they were, all most of the public remembers is the word "impeached")...at this point, he's not electable because low information voters think he's crooked. Never mind that with all of these attempts to do away with him, he's the most investigated man in this century and none of the charges has ever stuck. All they know is that he's accused, and the news readers make it sound like he's dirty.

If we hitch our hopes on him, we'll lose. It doesn't matter how many of us vote for him. Enough of the slander has stuck, and he does himself no favors with his public statements and his ego. And now one of our biggest problems is that ego telling him to run again, and come out swinging against anyone who wants the nomination besides him.

I agree. I would vote for him if he wins the primary but I don't think he can win in the general election. He lost to Biden! If he couldn't beat that idiot he can't win again. The swamp is deep and nobody drains it. Our fellow republicans are deep in it too.
