Hog Hunting in Sam Houston Nat'l Forest

I've never hunted public land but it's close enough that I may check it out and do a little scouting. I'm most curious about hog hunting, especially before the regular deer season kicks off. I don't have night vision so I was thinking about heading up there the next full moon...

Good friend of mine just wrote an article for long range hunting covering ilum as it relates to hogs, basically he found that hunting in the Conroe/Huntsville area with anything more than about 30% ilum yeilded VERY few hogs. I will try and find the link for you...

I always wondered about it. I thought that the TWMA didn't allow year round center fire hunting on the public lands that it manages except during deer hunting season. Is that incorrect?

Good question, I know people that used to target shoot when it was not Deer season.

Feral Hog: Open year round (no bag limit). All legal means allowed. No dogs allowed for hunting hogs.
