I discovered old ammo while clearing out my parents home and am not sure how to dispose of them.
I have a couple of handfuls of shotgun shells and rifle ammo that is likely decades old and I don't have the associated weapons anyway.

    Gunz are icky.
    Post some pictures of it.
Likely its usable to someone here.
It could be collectable or torn down for component re-use.

    Let's see what you have.

Just because it is old doesn't mean it isn't useable or worth something.

Just look at the two members that already posted......

Old ammo? Is it corroded? If it's just old sell it. Ammo that has been reasonably taken care of is still good even after 100 years. If you don't want to sell it you can always lock the case in a vice about halfway down it's length and away from the primer. Then pull the bullet with a pair of vice grips. Put the powder in a flower bed and the other components in the trash. Shotgun shells just cut the plastic wad with a knife, dump the powder in the trash and throw the other components in the trash.

Another option is to take it to your local police station and surrender it. Call them ahead of time and ask how they would like to receive it. Most of the time it's as simple as bringing it to the front desk in a cardboard box or paper sack but call ahead and ask.

    Good advice here, thank you.
    There isn't much here at all, but here's what I have;
The first two pics are of the only in tact box.

Next is also of .250 bullets of which there are only nine.
I thought they were the same as the ones in the box until I noticed the tips (next pic is for comparison; ones from box are on left) so I don't know what that difference means.

Next two are of just shotgun shells with the lid gone from the box and there are only 19 here.

Next are just random shells I found.
That's it sans a few .38 rounds I found which probably went with that Derringer.

All that ammo looks to be in great shape. I am sure somebody in your area would be glad to take it off your hands, maybe even leave you a little donation of some sort.

    Gunz are icky.
The rifle ammo appears to be .250 Savage(aka 250-3000 Savage).
Not terribly valuable but any Savage 99 rifle owner will gladly take it off your hands.
250 Savage ammo is getting rare.
The round with the silver tip is a Winchester produced round known as the Silvertip. These were common back in the 1950's-1980's.
The Remington and the Winchester are soft point expanding bullets. Very commonly used for deer hunting.

The shotguns rounds are common 12ga.

The packaging is circa 1980's so it is all usuable as is.

That's all in good condition, and looks safe to fire. I don't know that I would consider it "antique", but you could certainly go look up the going rate online and sell it for a few bucks under.
