How to Get and Hold a Job!

My father (a general contractor of commercial buildings, etc.) taught me many, many things while I was growing up at home about how to get and keep a job. Not just in the construction business, but any business. Basically the three most important things to do to get and keep a job:
1. Show up early
2. Keep your mouth shut
3. Do what you're told

Do not sleep with your supervisor or anyone else in the chain of management. Fine (but crazy) could end up being a problem at work as a result. Or so I am told.

Listen...times have changed. After watching several om’s and gm’s, today’s model goes:

1, come to work when you want.
2, talk well so you sound like you can handle any situation.
3, **** up a lot. This is how you can make the jump to higher positions.
4, wear a sweater vest and skinny jeans. If your employer is too afraid to fire you because they think you’re a homo, this will cement your employment.

Be one of the last to leave.
If you finish a task, either find something else to do, or ask for another task.
Learn to make coffee!
Don't be afraid to ask for help if you don't fully understand the job that needs to be done.
Do the jobs no one else wants to do, and learn everything you can.

Show respect, to earn respect.
Learn to do a job right the first time.
Do a job as quick as possible, as to the best of your abilities. Don't drag a 15 minute job into taking an hour.

Don’t be “indispensable”…you don’t want to do one thing forever.

…which ladders up to:
If you can’t be replaced, you can’t be promoted.

Lol unfortunately this is the norm. At my current job when it’s slow it’s bad. Why I’m on tgt now!

we don’t milk the work. We get it done and as a result it’s terribly slow.

I have seen hr gals on Facebook at previous jobs.
