Massive Cargo Ship Loses Power in New York City Near Verrazzano-Narrows Bridg

A massive cargo ship lost power in New York City waters just two weeks after the Dali ship lost power and crashed into the Francis Scott Key Bridge in Baltimore, Maryland.

The United States Coast Guard reported that it received a report that the 89,000-ton Qingdao containership lost power around 8:30 pm on Saturday while navigating the waters between Bayonne, New Jersey, and Staten Island, New York.

A New York tugboat captain told John Konrad, the CEO of maritime-centered news site gCaptain, that the “Container ship APL QINGDAO lost power while transiting New York harbor. They had three escort tugs, but three more were needed to bring her under control.”

“They regained power & were brought to anchor near the Verrazano bridge.” added the tugboat captain.

From the photo it does not appear the ship got all that close to the bridge but had it wound up hitting it and bringing it down, my bet is many more lives would have been lost than at the bridge in Baltimore. The Verrazano Narrows Bridge has a good amount of traffic 24/7.

Fun fact: when it was first built, the VNB was the longest single span suspension bridge in the world.

Biden will try to Ban diesel cargo ships for something electric made by Tesla.

The "new" technology they're pushing are get this - "wind powered" ships. They call them "wind powered" because the new kids today forget what they read in history books about "sailing ships" - some days I wonder if we're purposefully going to be bombed back in time to the 1700 or 1800's. There are also days I wonder if that'd be such a horrific thing - either for those killed instantly, or those who are rugged enough to survive.
