How difficult is it to grow them as far as attention you have to devote to it, watering, sunlight, that kind of thing? Sounds like a great idea, I think. Fried okra is delicious.

Why not, I hear the goblins can grow pot indoors but that could get expensive for the benefit of growing okra indoors

I had 7 plants one year. Way to much. They also grew up to and past 10'. They are a neat plant. In the evening they bloom the next morning the flower fall off and the okra is about 1 1/2" long and at noon they are perfect to pick and at 6pm they are already to big and tough to eat lol.

You know I've seen arguments about gumbo w/ vs w/o okra turn real ugly. We should be careful so this thread doesn't get locked

I've had it pickled, fried, in gumbo but never the way you describe. That sounds awesome, have to try it.

Obviously you're not from around here (and you're gone lacking). . .

The dish itself is called "okra gumbo".

You're thinking of that dish made by our easterly neighbors with seafood and swamp rat in it :p
O'course, it won't hurt any to put okra in the coonass variety of gumbo, but that ain't the gumbo we're talking about here.
