    Ok. Here it goes…….
This weapon is actually for my sister. She wants to start carrying.
The only handgun she has is a giant ass Glock. In .40 no less. It’s an inaccurate piece of shit that recoils too much for her.
She is petite. Like 100lbs. Wears form fitting clothes.
So I’m thinking slim 9mm. She won’t carry anything big and heavy.
9mm also allows relatively inexpensive ammo costs. This way she’ll practice with it.
It need to cost around $500.
I know you're not a Glock fan, but I went through this with my wife a few years ago when she wanted to start carrying. She's also petite and anything even in 9mm was more than she cared to handle. Even though she could shoot them, they were too snappy for her and she'd be reluctant to practice.

So I started looking at different .380s and ended up buying a Glock 42 at a good price on GrabAGun and figured if she doesn't like it, I'd sell or trade it for something else. But turns out she absolutely loves it and is incredibly comfortable and accurate with it and enjoys shooting it, which is really the objective even if it's a smaller caliber. It's also super light easy to carry and/or conceal.

I'm anything but a Glock fanboy, but don't hate them either and own this one and also a 26. We've been really happy with the purchase. .

Echo your thoughts on the Glock 26. My girls like it with the extended mag.

I have a (1) glock and like it but I try to never be seen in public with it.
Best to mask up while Glock rocking.

Both excellent choices, I would go with the shield right out of the box, However I chose the SIG 365 with a spring package (kept the strong striker spring) an improved trigger and a threaded barrel. Still cost less than the shield.
BEST solution is to fire both and choose which matches your style best! Canik also a major player in this field, also have heard a rumor that some people (Californians? ;) even prefer glocks

I am replacing a Kimber Micro 9 which is great but due to an ancient thumb injury - the safety is incompatible with my crooked thumb.
