In the early days of this, I had a friend who rather naively thought it might be an opportunity for a ‘free’ SBR.

I obviously advised against this. Noting that the only thing it might do is bring him up on the ATFs radar. Although we both own legal suppressors bought under a previous administration (which had a long wait) and have the paperwork, I saw this as a scam due to the hostility of the present regime.

So he did the paperwork and is still waiting.

The brace issue is dead. The ATF will quietly withdraw its enforcement after the black eye and losses in court and direct their attention elsewhere. Likely to harsssimg FFLs for trivial ‘mistakes.’ Or trying to use the ‘climate change’ scam to go after powder, primers, bullets, cartridges, etc. Which the FAA is actually doing when it comes to forcing US jet manufacturers to comply with silly emissions standards.

So while we’ll have unrestricted use of braces they’ll attack some other right.

Man, if they'd just complete a fully electric jet, electric 5-ton, electric MRAP, and electric M1A1 Abrams tank, they could then save the planet... ... ... heh

Until then, I ain't buying it, either...
    Never have, never will...

Was this a rant about braces/SBRs, or electric vehicles?

If your friend is still waiting on a brace rule approval he should contact the ATF and or his elected officials depending on what the ATF says.

Scratching my head on the "not wanting to be on the radar" when you admit you are already on the radar.

So if the ATF just throws up their hands and moves on then by definition it was a free SBR.

It's a bit naive to assume the ATF is "on our side" just because of who sits in the White House.

You have a registered suppressor with the ATF, and you were worried about applying for a free tax stamp for a brace would bring you up on their radar?!?

I believe there's more to their test than that at this point - if your gun is too heavy you'd still fail. If you don't have "approved" sighting systems you fail. This is straight up an attack on rifle-caliber pistols, not just braces. Its disguised as going after braced pistols, but they'll just move the goal posts. Buffer tubes will now be "shoulderable" and thus considered stocks. Just wait. Was not that long ago that some moose knuckle wrote ATF asking if it was OK for them to put frickin rubber stoppers on the end of their buffer tubes and that sparked debate on if that was now a stock.
It's neither politics nor policy, its an how to book written by the national socialist's of NAZI Germany 1937.

As an NRA Lifer, I want to just add that yes, the NRA as a monolithic org has been very disappointing but really what we are talking about here is the the NRA-ILA. Institute for Legislative Action. The original purpose of the NRA back in the day was to provide education and organize competition to help the country maintain a well regulated militia. That is, well trained. Things evolved to the ILA being created and the NRA becoming active in addressing the anti-2A laws that were spreading at the time.

I wish they'd do a better job of explaining this to the general public because we need the original function of the NRA more than ever nowadays... and yes, the ILA needs to get it's shit together and take a note from GOA and others and move to the fore-front of action. That is also needed now more than ever.

It wasn't the NRA-ILA up on capitol Hill agreeing to every major gun control bill; it was Wayne LaPierre.

And that blurring of the line between the NRA and the ILA has bugged the shit out of me for as long as I can remember.

Sheesh, I remember explaining this crap to someone on CompuServe ~30 years ago!

    Acho… aaaaacho!
Oh, sorry! I’m an allergic to bullshit.
He would never accomplish such achievements without involvement of the NRA top officials and silent approval and financial contributions from all members.
