    I'm selling a rifle to a guy from Houston, he's driving up to DFW to pick it up and pay. He's indicating we're required to go through an FFL.
    Unless something has changed in the last couple of years, my understanding is private party sales of guns within Texas DO NOT require an FFL.

    Has something changed or is he misinformed?

    Haven't done this in several years so any insight appreciated.

    Thanks everyone. I don't have a problem if he want's to spend the money either but I'd just assume not do any more paperwork than I have to.

    [UPDATE] Thanks to GennadiyB's link, he's agreed we don't need an FFL.

    Gunz are icky.
    There is paranoia on both sides of the sale.
    Typically we see it from the Fudd seller worried about his flintlock being used nefariously to rob banks and raping baby giraffes at the zoo.
    Buyers are worried about getting cheated with a non-functional firearm or worse, a stolen firearm..
    This smells like you buyer wants to be able to find you if he feels butt hurt.

    Wherever you agree to meet this guy should be neutral ground way away from your home. Bring at least one armed friend along for the transaction. If he’s merely uninformed, it costs you lunch with your friend but if he’s playing you for a mark make sure the odds are in your favor.

    A transfer thru an FFL doesn't guarantee that the firearm is functional.

    Normally I’d wonder if this is a real problem. In today’s world, I just wonder how widespread it is and admonish you not to give anybody any ideas. Guess that’s covered bt the + in lbgtq+.
    bg = baby giraffes.

    Yeah..it's hard to keep up with all these changes - but I think you're doing a really great job. :)
