Short barrel hunting

This may be a dumb question but can you hunt with an 18 inch barrel?

You can hunt with any length barrel in Texas. If it is below 16 you have to register it as a nfa weapon but its still legal to hunt with.

If so, Dee is still correct but your gonna have a hard time getting the birds unless they're real close.

Actually, the minimum barrel length 18.5 inches for shotguns, 16 for rifles. Other than that though, spot-on.

A short barrel is very limiting but it can be done. A longer barreled shotgun swings smoother and keeps a tighter pattern over distance.

But hunt with the one you brung.

True enough on the shotgun. I didn't even think about it being a shotgun just rifle. That being said if it is a shotgun you will need a full choke or you won't fair to well with the short barrel. I have friend that hunts on occasion with a TC pistol in 410 and does well but it is a tight full choke.

Take your shotgun out and pattern it at different distances and with different chokes to see how it does.

Yes, I was talking about a shotgun. Trying to get away with it without having to get a longer barrel. Would it be affected if I got a magazine extension as well?

If you are hunting migratory game bird it is as you are limited to 3 shells in the weapon.

Barrel swap? You have to have a plug to make sure that only 2 rounds fit in the magazine.

Most magazine extensions screw onto the existing magazine-tube, so no - generally not.
