From the MegaProjects channel is a brief history of where and how the AR-15 pattern rifle came from and its controversial (for some) role in America.
And from the video comments;
The AR wasn't really popular until the sunsetting of the '94 assault weapons ban in 2004. After the law went away, ARs started selling like hot cakes. Honestly the various gun control lobbies and senators have done more to sell ARs than any marketing campaign by gun manufacturers. Telling someone they aren't allowed to have something makes them want it even more. That being said, the ergonomics, light weight, low recoil, and universal modularity of the rifle is what has made them a lasting success.
p.s. I subscribe to several of the presenter's channels. He has five other channels covering different topics.
