First, why is this on a gun forum?

Second, f*** all of this "toxic" s**t. Life is fatal. You're not gonna live forever. Eat bacon. Eat tacos. Be a happy person up to the point you become worm food.
While I tend towards the "I eat everything, just not too much"...

I liken my body to a race car. Some folks wax their car every week, keep it garaged, on jack-stands, and never drive it to "preserve" it, but for what?

I use my body hard, I run, ride bicycles, but take care of it. I try to not eat too bad, have a salad here and there, keep frivolous fats on the low side, but I dont worry too much beyond that. I'm a race car, they bump and hit walls and need tires and oil changes and other maintenance to keep working right, but I dont treat my body like a demolition derby car like some do. There is a middle ground of using hard, but smartly between garage queen and demolition-derby car....

What's the consensus on butter-flavored lard? Do the additives that change the flavor have any deleterious impact on health?
I really don't have an opinion
I would have to see the ingredients really.
If there are more than a mouthful and you can't pronounce them..thats a good sign it's over processed though

My dad ate food cooked with lard or bacon grease most of his life until his heart exploded at age 44. He survived but was never the same. Triple bypass at 59.

I have made it a point to NOT set myself up for a life ending heart attack at age 44 (first one) or 69 (third and final one). A big part of that is eating healthy. Though I'm sure smoking also contributed.

My personal take on lard is that I watched those I love most (who cooked with lard) die in bad ways and suffer until they did.

I think when our society worked hard physically, it maybe wasn't a big deal. But our lifestyles don't involve working 8-12 hour days performing manual labor anymore.

So thanks to my wife, I learned to eat healthy and have continued to do so for almost 40 years. I weigh around 3/4 of the weight of family members, though I am a little pudgy. But my numbers are good, and I have only BP meds to take. Last doctor appointment she told me to try to lose 10 lbs, but whatever you are doing, keep doing it.
Cooking with lard doesn't make you fat.
Eating bacon won't give you heart disease.

Many times it's too much sugar from refined carbohydrates

How do so many people on a Carnivore diet have very low to normal Triglycerides??

The rates of obesity and heart disease rose accordingly with increased consumption of seed oils , refined carbs and ultra processed foods.

Your liver converts refined carbs / sugars into fat and offloads as Triglycerides.

A high sugar/carb diet is a high fat diet.

The American population is all the proof you need

I like the way Texasjack thinks...of course, I'm of the same philosophy...don't tell me what I can eat, consume - my body my choice...now stfu with your food missionary bs.

I'm gonna go get some crisco and spread it on my poppy seed covered avocado toast...so there!
Nobody is telling what you can or can't eat. Do as you wish.
I suggest you don't read post in the Fitness forum if it angers you like this.

Seed oils are oils that are highly processed oils from various plants

Canola (there is no such thing as a Canola plant) this oil comes from the rapeseed plant..a close relative of the mustard plant.

Corn, soybean, sunflower and other oils are absolutely toxic to your body and cause inflammation, disruption at the cellular level ..in the mitochondria..the little energy factories in your cell.

Many of these are put through the nasty process or hydrogenation. Which makes them highly oxidative.

Oxidation in your body can most definitely lead to cancer and other diseases.

Seed oils should be replaced with better options like olive oil , avocado and butter, not margerine..along with lard and tallow

When Americans used these for cooking , heart disease was very uncommon

The consumption of seed oils correlates to higher rates of obesity, heart disease and other metabolic disorders

I will post a could links to good videos if you can to learn more

Sodas are the worst thing ever invented
Absolutely horrible
Full of HFCS ..liver toxic.

Combine those with a bunch of couch potato kids and you have some 300 lb 7th graders using the motorized carts at Walmart
Many of these kids have non Alcoholic Fatty Liver Disease before 10 years of age.
Thats documented by Dr Lustig Pediatric Endocrinologist

It took a long time, but I finally got my wife to stop using vegetable oil. I save the rendered fat from whatever meat dish we're cooking. Only use that as cooking oil.

My dad was the same way. Problem is he smoked, drank a lot, and had biscuits or cornbread with every meal.

Combining the fat with carbs is what raises your lipids out of control. I actually lowered my cholesterol to normal levels while eating mostly meat and eggs. Excessive carbs are the problem. It is hard however, because I have my dad's love for biscuits

There is about 20% of the population with the APOE4 gene that is sensitive to dietary cholesterol. If you fall into that category then yeah you should avoid lard. It means you need to avoid veg oil as well, tho...

Breads and potatoes were the hardest for me to give up.Both for over fifty years have been a huge part of my diet.

Never been more appreciative of my parents for forbidding cokes and to my mom for homecooking everyday for 7 kids
My mom pushed "healthy" juice instead of soda. Too bad juice has just as much sugar as soda. Loved the home cooked biscuits and cornbread with every meal, too. Hmm, wonder why I was a fat kid

I probably should have been a fat kid and a fat adult, but I was fortunate to have a very active metabolism and did lots of hard work for many years. My last doctor's visit I weighed in at 172 lbs. and I stand 5'11".

I remember when margarine came out and was supposed to be healthier than butter, not so. Smoking for sure will shorten your life. Diet may or may not shorten it depending on your genetics. Diet to prevent cancer, no. Genetics are the most important thing. Enjoy life and part of enjoyment is eating what you like.

Those of us who are older remember when butter was toxic and seed oils were vital.

We remember when eating eggs meant certain death. And then they looked at people who were eating eggs and not dying and it turned out they're not so bad.

When I was in college, a study using rats in Canada determined that coffee gives you cancer. I remember a prof of mine who read the paper associated with the study. Turns out that you'd have to drink a cup of coffee every 10 seconds for 12 years to get the same body dose as the rats. Later it was determined that rats bred to use in cancer studies are extremely prone to getting cancer from just about anything injected into them.

"Scientists" studied people who ate fried foods and determined that it radically increased cholesterol and caused them to be fat and have all sorts of cardiovascular problems and diabetes. What kinds of stuff were they eating, well, like donuts. For years, fat became the enemy. Do you know where American women consume the most fat? From salad dressing. Why? Because obviously salads are good but fat is bad. Of course, there are now doctors looking at that data and realizing that it was the sugar causing the problems, not the fat. Add to that the many, many companies that add high fructose corn syrup (HFCS) to foods that you wouldn't even expect to contain them - like McDonalds adds it to french fries and hamburger buns. So people who have been following the "recommended" diets for the last 50 years are NOT seeing reductions in cholesterol and still have trouble with weight.

Actual scientist Carl Sagan (from Cornell U.) made a lot of noise about global cooling ("nuclear winter") that was going to destroy the planet. Did a tremendous amount of research on it. Boy, if he were still alive he'd probably be surprised that the planet, according to Greta Thunberg (ugh!), is going to be destroyed by Global Warming. Oops, wait, when the data didn't match the narrative, this was re-titled "Climate Change", so some places will get warm and people will die and other places will get cold and people will die - women and minorities will be impacted the most, of course.

Then there's that doggone Ozone Hole. It was going to kill all of us by the year 1999. Title VI of the 1990 Amendments to the Clean Air Act addresses that by going along with the Montreal Protocol. That's why Freon is so expensive. (Wait, how did Freon get involved? Oh, yeah, nobody really knows. It was a guess.) By the way, the Ozone Hole is still there, as are we, but women and minorities are still unfairly impacted.

Wait! Aren't we all dead from Acid Rain? Title IV of the 1990 Amendments to the CAA addresses that. But nothing really changed. Turns out that those dying lakes in the Northeast may have been impacted by bad septic systems and road salt. Nobody will admit that they might have been wrong, so we'll just move on. Except for women and minorities, of course.

Linus Pauling - famous actual scientist who won 2 Nobel Prizes (chemistry and peace) swore that eating huge quantities of vitamin C would help keep you alive. Alas, he's dead and that didn't seem to pan out all that well. Americans still consume huge quantities of vitamin C and other vitamins. (One doctor noted that Americans have the most expensive urine in the world, because any excess of vitamins that your body doesn't need gets ejected by the kidneys.)

Jeanne Louise Calment (lived to be 122 years old) Secret to long life: Smoked 2 cigarettes a day, for 100 years. She only stopped smoking at 119, after losing her eyesight as she didn't want to burn herself accidentally. She also drank port wine often and ate 2 pounds (that's nearly 16 bars) of chocolate every week.

Do I need to remind any of you what happened with Fauci and the COVID-19 vaccines? If you still believe that the government, the media, and the pharmaceutical companies don't lie to you, then you are a hopeless fool. Get a caretaker, 'cause you need help.

My cholesterol was bad high. Freaking AOC high. Freaking Cheech and Chong high. I was able to still enjoy good food, improve my diet, and reduce it by 100.

I have not completely gotten rid of fast food but I only eat it...Once or twice a month at most. Sometimes I won't feel like it at all. I rarely drink soda...I stopped eating canned foods. If anything @vmax should inspire us younger guys. I turned 41 on the 4th, and I like not needing a lot of food even after working hard.

Guys younger than us: Start your better diet sooner than later. Don't get on a diet until problems show up. Cycleguy said it best, our bodies are machines. We use them for work. Even if you sit in an office, you use your mind, and you need to eat well.

Sugar is the devil. Well, sugar and porn. Sugar and porn are Satan incarnate.

I'll defend to the death anyone's right to consume as much as they want of both but I know from personal experience that sugar and porn are absolutely the devil.

I could write that book.

And, yes, I know I've said that too many times in the past and I shouldn't really say it again until I have a few chapters written and a publishing deal...but I can't help that it remains true.
