Maybe half a dozen years back.
And I paraphrase, but the just of it is constant.
(Interviewer) "Willie, are you a progressive or conservative?"
(Willie) "Well, I'd like to think I'm progressive. But if the truth be told, I'm more conservative than not ".

I never read a book by him but knew for a long time now he was woke long before the word became popular. I just listened to his songs and read a few of his interviews and such and realized he was an ultra lefty. I still like a lot of his music but would not purchase any of it.
