I was shooting my .458 SOCOM yesterday and the lens on my Strikefire II cracked on me. So I called Vortex today and they are taking care of it. I will keep everyone posted on how quickly and easily they take care of this.

My brother had one of their entry level scopes a Crossfire fog up, he called them and sent it in and they did not fix it, they sent him a brand new one in a sealed package. Once they received it, they shipped the replacement that same day. This was during the off hunting season but their service was amazing. No production line is perfect but good customer service sure gives you confidence to buy from them.

Vortex has a fantastic warranty..................... For a reason.

    You'll likely need it.

I hope you have something to back this up.

I've had no use for warranty on the scope getting the hell beat out of it on a .50 BMG and stored in a 20 year old worn out $20 case. Seems to be sturdy enough to take some abuse.

Yep I do. (1) Vortex Viper 6.5-20 returned for warranty scope flare.

    (1) Viper PST 6-24 returned for scope flare issues.

    (1) Viper PST 4-16 returned for scope flare issues. Same 4-16 returned later for inaccurate tracking and zero shift issues.

    (2) PST 1-4 sold due to mild scope flare issues on 4X setting.

Seems you are looking for arguments with me.

No, just found your statement to be odd because you are the first person I've seen make such a claim.

It seems to me your scope flare issues weren't a defect, the scopes just don't meet the standard you are looking for. That's Ok. They aren't $3,000 scopes.

They do meet certain standards of more expensive scopes while not having the same price. There is a trade off.

I didn't buy a Vortex expecting a Nightforce. I bought a Vortex expecting it to be durable and track properly with reasonable clarity. It has done all of those things it was designed to do exceptionally well.

I've known of 3 pst not to track properly one was consistent in the improper amount and the other 2 were just off. Vortex stood behind the 2 and I never heard if the other 1 was sent back. I only have one product of Vortex's and I expect it to be a great product being it is a Razor.

A $700-$1000 scope should not have scope flare issues IMO. None of my Leupold VX-2, VX-3, Mark 4 or VX-6 scopes have this issue.

    Had to google that.

Yeah, the Viper PST is not the clearest scope out there. But that's why they sell the Razor I guess. More money gets you better glass.

I thought he was talking about glare, which hasn't been much of an issue for me but I've always run the sunshade on it.

I don't have much experience with the pst but the viper hs was definitely a bit fuzzy to my eyes but still good for the price. I have only experienced glare shooting almost into the setting/rising sun.

The PST is just the target version in the Viper line. Same glass as the HS AFAIK, different reticle and turrets.

Looked through a Razor and there was a noticeable difference in clarity, but for the same money I would probably get an SWFA SS HD. Only by a slight edge though.

The razor can be bought for 1300 right now. I have yet to see a hd ss in person so I can't judge on them but a lot of guys like them. I think the razor glass (gen1) is on par with my NightForce. I like my Bushnell Elite Tac better than the Vortex hs glass.

SWFA 5-20 HD runs the same price from the website.

I like the eye box of the SWFA better. The view seems "bigger" if that makes sense.

The clicks feel more positive on the Vortex IMO, but I've also chewed up my fingers on the knobs, lol.

The Vortex has a bigger field of view per the specs. I had recently narrowed down to the Razor and Burris XTR II as I wanted zero stop and the ss didn't offer that. The Bushnell dmr got cut for the same reason. I was going to order the Burris until the Razor fell into my lap basically.

Yeah, I didn't mean the field of view. Probably using the wrong words.

Like if I were looking at the same picture on a 30" TV and a 35" TV.

Course, a smaller FOV would make the image appear larger in some ways as well. But that's not what it feels like to me.

This is comparing a Viper PST to a SS 10X so it's not exactly apples to apples. Seems I had the same feeling with Scapps 5-20 HD, but again, that's an HD line Vs the viper line. Only looked through one Razor but didn't have anything to compare it with SxS.

Where did you see the Razor for $1300? On the SWFA site they are showing $1700 for the Razor HD. That's with a 35mm tube vs the SWFA HD 30mm tube and a reticle that I think is a little nicer than the SWFA. Also has illuminated reticle which bumps the SWFA price to $1500.

I'd be more than happy with either model, just gotta start saving pennies.
