Libre is good. MSOffice is better I still think, but you need to be a super user to really take any advantage of it. Libre has been catching up though.

This is exactly the sort of situation that should be addressed by a company if it listens to its people. If there's a thing (ANY thing) that saves that much time, it should be made a part of the official workflow. When your company switched to Libre, did the people who made that decision know they were breaking your workflow? They should have. They should have assigned programmer resources to make the transition without loss of functionality.

Were the SMEs (subject matter experts) idiots? I doubt it. The folks that made the decision probably didn't bother to understand the work processes they were going to impact.

Crap like this makes me crazy. One of the jobs I've had in the past involved being the person who translated between the workers and the decision-makers. I am still consistently amazed by how little each group understands the needs and goals of the other.

Sorry. Rant over. You just hit on a personal pet peeve of mine - IT changes that damage the organization out of sheer ignorance on the part of the decision-makers. I could write a book...but I won't do it here.
One day I came in and had libre. My scripts no longer worked. I doubt who ever made the decision even knew about the scripts we were using. The company I work for is great at manufacturing. They should have never got into wholesale distribution (my job), and just left it to the pros. They are a manufacturer, who decided to start their own distribution chain. Train wreck if I've ever seen one. I spent 8 years working for an independent before coming here and they were so much more efficient, it's not even funny.

With all the brainpower in this forum I bet you could get some help rewriting for libre

The brain power in this forum would encourage anyone trying to use Excel (and its lookalikes) as a Swiss Army Knife to knock it the #&%*@ off. Far too often people attempt to solve 'problems' with the wrong tool, and Excel is very often that tool. I'll use a poor analogy :)

It's akin to using a Vice Grip pliers instead of a proper tool set. Sure, it's fast and easy to grab that awesomely versatile tool you know and trust. After all, "it just works" for you pretty much any time you need to tighten or loosen, or bend, crush or mangle something. You can almost always get the job done, and it might just get the job done quickly and easily a good portion of the time. The end result might not be 100% pretty and perfect, but hey it worked. But when you eventually and inevitably completely booger a fastener, you often create a whole new set of problems that would have been completely avoided had the proper tool been used. Still, the 'new' problem can be solved, with varying degrees of difficulty. Sometimes you just need a better understanding of how to use the pliers, maybe it just needs some more duct tape on the grip. Or maybe you need to call in someone who is an expert at un-fornicating mechanical disasters and putting things back to right.

That's Excel to an IT guy.

I work for a corporation (for now). There's two peons that are proficient in excel out of 3500 employees. They screw up all the time and data is a crap shoot. The rest don't know how to read it. They're all too busy becoming proficient in power point presentations. I hate MBAs. They've ruined there business world.

Oh my gawd. Well, I can't let y'all be idiots with a spreadsheet by yourselves. I'll get one going and be an idiot with a spreadsheet too.
