I doubt I will OC. But everyone should have the right to do so. Thus I supported the legislation, like so many on this board.

I've been thinking I may have to do at least one OC Wally Walk.

Serious question regarding this (I will admit to not having read the bill that passed in its entirety yet), as I understand it it's currently illegal to open carry long arms (being as that's currently legal) in an establishment that sells alcohol under TABC regulations. I'm not referring to 51% establishments, so if that is the case does that carry over to open carry of handguns carrying under the "authority" of the soon to be handgun license? If so a walmart or HEB walk would be illegal unless concealed.

Again legitimate question just trying to dot the i's and cross the t's to cover the understanding once enacted into law.

    Fixed in this bill.

I have a CHL and I'm openly against open carry. Just like I don't go tempting thieves with valuables, I don't want to give someone another reason to try to rob me or give away my element of surprise.
I have known of many people that received a bullet in their head to steal their gun.
    I'll continue to carry concealed

That's funny because I have known many people who have been smashed by rogue asteroids and space junk. Small world huh?

Glad something passed. How many people are going to regularly OC if they are going to have a LE contact every time they get out of their car to go into a store. If you are running errands, the possibility of being detained and having your license checked 5 or 6 times a day would make it more of a pain in the ass than it is worth.

I'm glad it passed as well. There are other things to like about this bill (reduction of a violation to a Class C misdemeanor etc.). But without the protection provided by Dutton - Huffines, it's a rather gutless bill as far as OC is concerned. Why did CLEAT oppose that amendment so strongly unless they had something planned? Given the past history of the Houston and Austin PD's with regard to 2nd amendment, the D-H amendment was clearly needed. If they believed existing law already did the same thing as D-H, why did they oppose it so strongly? As I said in the other thread, the judicial rulings that would apply have only been up to the 6th Circuit court. That circuit doesn't cover Texas. So the CLEAT crowd can legitimately claim it doesn't apply to them and be technically correct. And anyone want to bet that the CLEO's like Acevedo won't push it to the limit? They'll make a defacto ban by simply hassling OC'ers to the point that the message gets out, "Not in MY town"! I think we talked elsewhere how that had been done in Alexandria VA. So there is ample precedent. And they won't need multiple stops. They could stop you for a license check. While they're waiting to hear back on whether there are any outstanding warrants, let's just have you sit in the back of this cruiser. Oh, and let me just take that pistol. While we have it, we need to run the serial number to make sure it's not stolen or anything. That stop could take a long time. All the while your pistol is getting manhandled. Maybe even add a few nicks, dents and scratches for good measure.

I have jokingly said stuff about po po harrasment.

But in my mind guys that think its going to happen and spout off about it sound just like the anti gunners screaming there will be blood in the streets.

Come on you are protected already as the bills sponsor has stated. If enough people actualy use there new rights there will not be enough time for Po Po to do much of anything other than ask for licenses.

I'm sad people are making jokes about such a serious issue.

Yes, people get shot in the head and their guns stolen. How do I know?

It happened to me. Some crack head came up and put a gun to my head and splattered my brains across the sidewalk. Then he stole my HiPoint fotey and ran off. And it's not the first time that's happened to me either.

This is a super cereal issue, you guys. And one that me, TexanCarbine, and others have discussed at length at our MDA meetings. We aren't against guns or anything. Ok, so we may not REALLY have a CHL, but we gotta post that on the forums or you all will just claim we are "anti gun". We aren't. We just don't think everbody should have them. We are all for the responsible people having them, like cops, military, and other government authority figures.

I guess what we're trying to say is, we have studied this to the very ends of our imagination and decided that guns are indeed scary. We even tested this buy taking turns open carrying toy guns and seeing if we could shoot each other in the head to take it. Lit was a bloodbath of injuries, mostly self inflicted because we weren't sure exactly how the scary guns work, but that's beside the point.

Guns are bad, m'kay. You all need to except that and turn them all in.

But me and TexanCarbine aren't anti gun or anything.

Actually I originally posted that it had to be 51% situation but I haven't read the bill in its entirety so I'm not sure.

We might all have to OC for the first few months just so they can get use to it. As far as the stops go, be prepared. Look at it as volunteer work for a good cause. They don't have time to harass us all. They will get over it pretty quickly.

A Dallas newspaper- help me with the name- ran an article where the author said "we only want the police and the bad guys to have guns."

It's a scary world where somebody can genuinely say that , believe it, and vote on that principal.

Really? I mean seriously? If you were in a situation where an assailant approached you and it was only the two of you, would the though "thankfully of the two of us here, only HE has a gun" comfort you?!
