You scared me Ben, but minutes after your post I made a reservation. Apparently at the less desirable location, or so others think. ;)
I'll be at the same place. Who knows? Maybe the other place was just filled up with a wedding or something.

Then there's the "last minute" strategy. I've failed to make Hicksville reservations timely in the past but didn't worry about it. Calling twice a day for three days before the event netted me a cancellation.

    OT Warning

    Squeaky wheel.
Nope. Just good strategy, sometimes. That last time I went to the Olympics, I waited until 10 days before the opening ceremony to make my reservations. Why? Because greed makes hoteliers and people renting out their houses keep the prices sky-high for years prior to the Olympics. Then, a month before the Games, the people who have unfilled rooms or houses go into full panic mode and prices drop like a rock.

Honestly, I advise people who want to go to the Olympics to get their tickets the second they go on sale but wait till the last minute to book accommodations. It's worked for me and for lots of people I've known.

To get back slightly on topic, if both the major hotels are full, there are some smaller ones and there's the hope of finding a last-minute cancellation. Anyone who really wants to stay in Gatesville should be able to find a place.

Simple answer, the sooner you get there, the more BS you can spread ;)
