GHG, what you and other veterans don't know is that the entire US medical system is effed-up beyond repair. It doesn't matter whether your a vet treated at the VA or a civilian treated at a greedy doctor's office or hospital. Vets complain that it takes 30 days to see their specialists. They complain that they're rushed through appointments. Guess what... the last time I made an appointment to see my neurologist (WHEN I had insurance) it took two months to see him. Guess what... every time I've seen a doctor in the last 20 years they rushed me out in less than 5 minutes. That's the norm these days. Otherwise, how could our doctors afford their BMW's and million dollar homes? Since I can't work I haven't seen a doctor in nearly FOUR YEARS because I no longer have insurance and am completely broke. I finally applied for SS Disability because I've lost the fight of remaining independent.

My point is, you need to take advantage of the services provided to you and make damn sure they don't suck. Veterans have it far better than many millions in this country. You just need to make sure the services you receive are up to the standards taxpayers are paying for. Be strong... suck it up... you're not weak... you may need help... but you're NOT helpless.

Privatize the system. The care I received from the contractor was completely opposite of the VA.

It's also why Fed Ex makes millions and the USPS is floundering.

No GHG... you THINK you want that... but you really do NOT!! Privatization just makes things worse because you add a top layer of greed to the process. Believe me... I've seen it over and over and over and over again. You do NOT want greedy contractors coming in to "fix the problems". Ever heard of the Federal Reserve? That's a privately owned bank set in place to correct our financial woes. How's THAT worked out?

It drives competition and better services for better prices. Do you really believe socialized government services are higher quality than private services?

It's a quasi governmental agency just like the post office. You think a real bank would keep buying government debt like that? LMAO

And that private firm drove the postal service into the ground with big wigs sucking up profits... yes, I know there are other factors too. The Federal Reserve is a ponzi scheme.

Why, because I don't blindly support/agree with GHG? Because we don't agree?

Nope, that's not it at all. Don't really care if you do or don't support / agree with him.

    .....
If you contrast this OP and comments with others including a thread he helped lock by going on an anti-alcohol tyrate, while posting elsewhere what he's drinking and often *I'm drunk*, perhaps you'll understand my position. In other words, consistency matters to me.

Oh, in that case maybe I misunderstood what you said if you're just talking about consistency. Let me go back and re-read your post.

Love your soldiers, for the pot smokers they are.

Nope. Still doesn't change my opinion. And no matter how many times I read this, I don't see any reference or insinuation about your beloved consistency.

As a matter of fact, I can't seem to find any positive way to spin your above statement. Of course this is nothing new. Many service members returning from Vietnam were spit on and called baby killers. I guess you could at least claim that your statement was better than that.

I'm just sitting here trying to figure out where the "for the pot smokers they are" came in to play. With all the random and frequent piss tests they had us doing, this comment just confuses me.

I've worked around 100% more pot smokers on the civilian side than I ever did in the military. Simply because guys didn't smoke pot in the commands I was with, yet I've had plenty of performance related problems from co-workers that have been related to drugs on the civilian side.

I got no problems with what Glockster said. It was obviously directed at one person, not all vets, nor vets with issues.

At least, it's obvious if you know him well.

Even if it's directed at one person...I'm still confused. That comment just threw me off. Well, back to something less confusing like looking at guns.

    grasshopperglock,

Back on topic. I have had some unsolved problems for the majority of my life where I have used other methods to try and suppress them. It took me some time to figure out that that life was not good and unsustainable. Afterwards I looked to the things that I am good at and to what I had at hand. I went back to my roots and started to work with my hands again and I went back to training my dogs.

It was an easy decision to put the two together when I started taking my Labs to Lowes and Home Depot. I used to try and call the store general managers to ask if it was okay but after some static I decided to just say **** it and go in with the dogs anyway. The people and especially their kids love the dogs. My last Lab (not my guy I have now) was a show stopper. He was a handsome English Lab that was the most passive and easy going dog I have ever come across. He was so easy to train and had a huge drive to please his master it made training him lots of fun. I used the big box stores and other local establishments as a way to socialize him and ME to get us out of the house and find some good people.

One of the best places I have taken him is to a local park that the city had developed. They took 80 acres and put in soccer fields, basketball courts, sand volleyball and a huge running/walking path around a BIG pond/lake. At the water I taught him how to swim and fetch buoys. This then attracted all of the other people that where using the paths and again their kids just loved the dog.

If you can, get your dog out for a walk or take him to some big box hardware stores and meet some new people.

My little Toy Fox Terrier, Jake, fills that void for me. I made a conscious decision to stay the Hell away from women several years ago. I'm happier, have more money to spend, the toilet paper consumption around here has plummeted and I eat like a King.......anything that I want (as long as I cook it myself...snicker).

Jake is my best buddy and we do things 24/7. I couldn't ask for a better friend. He's completely loyal and committed to a good life together. Jake protects me and always seems to know when I need a little comfort.

Not trying to be too picky here, but didn't you spend a year telling us how you and your lady friend used some pressure cooker to make all this food that was fit for a king?

I am pretty sure he meant being in a "relationship" with them, ha has always referred to Bonnie as a good friend.

ETA: although I have NEVER been successful at being "friends" with women...

That's a fair question. Bonnie and I lived together for 11 years, that ended, and she's had her own place 25 miles from here since then. We are best friends of 15 or 16 years all together and we get along great. We co-parent our little dog Jake, and he loves both of us equally.

Neither one of us ever understood why people need to hate each other when the BF/GF relationship ends.

I have several female friends but there's nothing romantic. That way, life is simpler and damned good! I recommend it!
