I went a little bigger and got a JRcarbine in 45acp. Uses Glock 21 mags. Super accurate at 50 yards and close range. Their customer service is second to none!!!!

My Mechtech uses Glock 21 mags, is threaded, and is insanely quiet with a Osprey 45 can attached. Accuracy out to 100 yds is very good, too. I got it on Gun broker and have about $400 in it, including getting it threaded.

Not saying that your solution is bad or expensive, just pointing out that there are options. My \thread quip was in jest.

    Crush, kill, mangle, maim, destroy.

I have a suppressed 300BO AR carbine (8" barrel) and a suppressed 9mm CZ Scorpion (form 1 submitted for SBR).

I wouldn't hesitate to grab either.

YG had a good point. Shooting indoors is loud and 223 is a screamer.

I think if you ever have to use it, you won't even hear it...

have you seen the cz scorpion evo pistol and the stock from its original full auto design. Makes an awsome SBR from a pistol

A dedicated carbine is much more functional than simply adding a shoulder stock to a pistol.

If they were legal, it wouldn't interest me much, much rather have an actual short barrel carbine (which I imagine wouldn't require jumping through any hoops in a situation where stocked pistols are legal)

Has anyone had any experience with the Beretta cx4? I have a px4 storm and heard the cx4 takes full size mags from the px4. That would be nice to share mags.

I have a Beretta Storm carbine set up to use M-9/92 magazines. Did it that way because I had a M-92 pistol.
    The carbine has been excellent.
    Accurate.
Untold thousands of rounds and it only ever choked on that El-Cheapo Monarch ammo from Academy.
I use the 18rd Mec-Gar mags and factory mags only. Avoid the cheap ones.
Only complaint I have about mine is the trigger. Its rough and scratchy but you get used to it. Sierra PaPa sells a replacement but its pricey.

    Buy with confidence.

I got one that took PX4 mags and coveted it for the 92 mags. They are a lot cheaper and it's easier to find them in 30 or 32 round capacity.

Just need a 92 to go with it.

I think .223 is pretty marginal for self defense myself so a 9mm carbine is more of a range toy to my mind. I would recommend the AR if you're choosing between the two and it may be needed for self defense at some point.

When I'm at home I like the ar platform but I would like to have something for my truck that takes the same mags as my carry gun.

Ruger PC9 if you can find one at a reasonable price. Have had mine since 2000 and love it. Will run any ammo without fail, takes the 15, or 10 factory Ruger mags, and the 30round aftermarket mags work just fine.

As one who owns several pistol caliber carbines I can't imagine picking one as my primary defense weapon in any ordinary situation.

A well know well practiced handgun IMO just fits most any home defensive situation.

Indoors unwieldiness, muzzle blast and over penetration speak against 5.56 for home defense.

I love my 9mm and .45 carbines, though not as a primary defensive weapon.

In a close combat situation, where a semi-auto pistol carbine might be usable, I'd rather have a shotgun.

    PCCs are pretty dang sweet:

Fast, accurate, easy to maneuver and shoot. I'm on the fence about 9mm vs 5.56 for HD use, but I've taken some pretty big hogs with a single 9mm round, so I feel pretty good about it.
