"Most notable was the 2015 legislative session, when lawmakers — including Patrick and Abbott — enthusiastically approved the open carry of handguns by licensed Texans despite opposition by many of the state's law enforcement officials.

As the 2017 legislative session approaches, law enforcement groups say they'll be asking lawmakers to consider revising the open carry law........"

So does anyone know what these proposed changes are?

No chance, that genie will not go back into the bottle. If anything, rights should be expanded as over the past 7+ months that OC has been law there has been absolutely none of the problems the left claimed there would be. What basis would there be to reduce or negatively revise the law?!?

We need to crack down on this open carry nonsense before t becomes a problem.

I kind of like having more Liberty than I need. It makes me feel like I am living in a free country.

Note that not all LEOs are against OC. In fact, in my experience the majority I know and have talked with support it as they don't much care about what law-abiding citizens do...

Guess the LEO unions need to be put in their place then

Combined Law Enforcement Associations of Texas (CLEAT) has always been adamantly anti-OC. Between them and liberal Austin Police Chief Art Acevedo, they'll continue to spin it as a bad thing even though there's absolutely zero evidence to support that claim.

Luckily, the Texas Republican Party is pushing for lifting even more many restrictions on accessing and keeping firearms, and even Constitutional carry. I think they'll persevere!

You should know better than to apply logic when talking about gun control.

The liberals will jump on Dallas, rightly or wrongly, to try and roll things back. Facts don't phase them.

And yes, Dallas alone was pretty much a worst case test of open carry, and nothing bad happened because of open carry. No OC'er's shot by police or other armed citizens. No innocent civilians shot by OC'ers, etc.

I'm really hoping there is conversation of this going in the right direction.
I have been a gun enthusiast since about 2010 but im just now getting into the political side.
I finally got around to taking the CHL class and in the process of sending in all my info and i must say they tend to make it a bit difficult for folks who have been arrested in the past. I'm legal to own and buy a firearm but i seem to have to jump thru rings of fire to send in the correct information it seems. I'm all for a mandatory class on gun safety/shooting similar to the one in place now...

I'll add that the guy who was posted as a person of interest early on (due to his OC in the march) turned himself in respectably. Although, there was some sort of report he was upset with the PD for smearing his name or something like that with the possibility he would sue, and I was somewhat disappointed he blasted that out there.

I think any of the police who come out against open or concealed carry (and especially try to influence the legislators) should be fired and banned from ever working in law enforcement again. They are attempting to violate the Constitution which (hopefully) they swore to uphold. I don't believe the LEOs should enforce every law. If a law prohibits something that the officer believes should be legal, then the officer should not enforce that law. On the other hand, if the law allows something, he should not be arresting people for doing it just because he doesn't like it and he should not be trying to get the legislators to change the law. A LEO cannot just blindly follow orders. If he does, he's no better than the prison guards at Nuremberg. The "just following orders" and "just doing my job" excuse didn't work for them then and it shouldn't work for the LEOs now.

In his defense, they did do harm to his reputation because that image of him being their prime suspect is still out there. He may be innocent, but you know how stupid people are. They had it in their minds that he was the cop killer, and many of them won't let that go. You can Google "Dallas shooter", and that image of him is still in the top 10 images.

Not the fault of the PD though. Every time I saw the photo that night, they always specifically said PD had him as person of interest. Never said he was a prime suspect.

Of course, I didn't watch every news cast either so...

It was his choice to open carry a rifle at a protest. It was a very poor decision for a number of reasons. He leaned a valuable lesson.

And I'd love to see a few legislators, when these same people come to testify, ask "When debating this issue a couple years ago, you claimed that if this passed we'd see 'blood in the streets, dogs and cats living together, mass hysteria', and other such things. We've seen absolutely none of this. So how can we believe your predictions now?" These people who get paid to go to Austin to testify (I don't know, but I'd bet most or all the LEO who testified got paid for the time they were in Austin) and fan flames of hysteria need to have it rubbed into their faces.

Well, they definitely need *something* rubbed into their faces...

Something appropriate for all the excrement that they are spewing...
