the only things he fought for when I was growing up around him was a welfare check and cheap whiskey. He was a total loser and everyone in our area knew it and avoided him like the plague.
He mooched off of my grandparents, well, lets be honest, they enabled him
    he was their baby

it worked out good for him, all he has is a failed life built on lies
I guess enough people that knew him then have died or moved away and with thanking vets being kind of a new fad, he found another way to get over because so few people know his true past.

so here's to you , you pathetic man. Enjoy the pats on the back. Sleep well.

No need to get worked up over this man.

Unless he's a sociopath, he knows what he is and probably loathes himself for being such pathetic weasel, but hasn't the courage to do better. So, he plods along, feeling disgusted with himself and I'd be willing to bet acts arrogant, a defensive mechanism.

    How do I know this?

I too have a family member with a similar M.O.

He knows he's a pathetic low life loser, but hasn't what it takes to do better.

He's emotionally immature, lazy as hell and while embarrassed about his rotten life's non-effort, won't even try to do better.

I dropped him out of my life after helping him get a job, (which he quit for no good reason in 2 weeks) provided him with room and board until I thought he would get on his feet. After he quit his job with his check for the 2 weeks he did work, I told him to get out of my house and never, ever show his face to me again.

I learned that I was just another sucker in a long line of suckers.

Tell him if he really wants people to notice he should go to DMV and get a Vietnam Veterans plate for his car/truck.

Tell him he will need his DD214. Or better yet have someone ask him why he does not have one now.

Let it go! In the grand scheme of things it's not important. People get rated for injuries while in the service, like one guy got 40% for a football injury while stationed in Hawaii. There is no rule that it has to be a combat wound. During the peak on the Vietnam war when there were 500,000 Americans in country, only about 100,000 were grunts and fewer than that were in maneuver battalions. Did we like sleeping on the ground in the rain...no. Did we talk bad about the remf's...yes. Were we glad to get a resupply of c-rats, or mail, or getting to hitch a ride in a helio, damned right and if nobody was back there we would have been sol. It was a long time ago, let it go.

I don't have them. I've thought about getting them, just haven't gotten around to it. Last time I renewed my DL I didn't know you could get a veteran stamp on it if you brought your 214. I opted to skip the label and skip the line if I had to come back.

My LTC does say Veteran though, and my vehicle has a couple of stickers.

You have to be 50% or 60% disabled to get get plates in texas, last I checked. Not all vets are rated high enough.

As far as the branch plates - ain't no way I'm rocking Navy plates. If they come out with Seabee plates, then that's a different story.

I believe you can get both decoration and service related plates, like a Vietnam Service Medal plate, as long as the decoration is on your DD214. No disability required, just won't have "DV" on them.

Im a USCG Veteran. I DONT have USCG plates on my Jeeps, instead I have EMS plates. But my Harley has USCG because they dont have EMS plates for the bikes. I also dont have any stickers on my Jeep thats USCG, just never saw the need to advertise I'm a veteran. Dont gete wrong, I'm proud of my service and would do it all over again.

As a person who never served, I give the utmost respect to those who have, regardless of length of service or whether they were behind a desk in San Antonio or in a rice paddy in Vietnam.

Regarding OP's question? Well I guess I would not worry about it too much... but no problem letting him know that you know he's full of it.

Thank you to all who served.

    Signed,
The chickenshit who slipped out a side door at the MEPS center to have a quick smoke during a long wait period only to find himself locked out and then to have second thoughts, realize I haven't signed anything yet, decide to walk back to my car and drive home like I was never even there.

What sort of replies do you get? It's never even crossed my mind to get veteran plates. I don't feel the need to advertise.
