First ya I know I am going to die crash burn and take out 1/2 of Tx by doing this. But the internet says its safe so it must be :)

There are a lot of guys running 275/40 20 in a couple of brands on the stock 20x8 challenger rims. And there is no bulge or warp but chain stores will not install them. Anyone know of a tire shop that is willing to do this kind of work ? I will be putting them on the rear and stock size 245/45 20 or may do 255 in the front.

Shop needs to be in Austin Round Rock Ceder Park Liberty Hill or Burnet or relatively close to that area.

Used to be a used shop just a couple hundred yards south of New Hope on Bell/183 on the east side of 183. Looks like lots of custom finesse type work there(but I haven't been by there in a couple of years).

I used to be a fan of Discount Tire, but the last time I asked them to mount some non-standard tires they wanted to charge me $100 each. Went to NTB a little further up i35 and they did it for $28 each. Now I'm an NTB fan

On a side note, I only ever take my wheels to the chain tire shops. None of them know how to properly torque wheel bolts.

My favorite tire shop in Round Rock used to be the one on Mays street downtown, but I think the old guy that owned it passed away. I haven't been since they changed it.

I think every small town you listed has a mom and pop tire shop that would be happy to do it.

Finding a shop should be easy. Stay away from the chains and it will get done in no time.

If you want to see if it will really work, instead of trusting what you read on the internet, you can go to the tire manufacturers website. Most will tell you what wheel width range each tire can be mounted on. If the company making the tire is good with it, then there should be no reason to worry.

they are recommended for a 9 in rim. Thats the problem The Challenger in 2014 came with 20x8 rims but countless people on the challenger forums and also tons of other car forms have had it done with no problems and I have yet to find a single post about anyone having problems.

So I guess it must be fatal and if it fails they die and cant post how messed up it is to run them on a 8in rim.

As far as them being rubber bands they are not even close to that.

Oh now that's sweet! I only made that comment bc I never used or most likely even seen in person tires that thin. But I'm sort of a younger old school guy and like the original muscle car era and not the new.

Most of the shops around here will mount anything you want if it will fit and you got the money.

One place couldnt mount some 315's on a 10.5" rim and put my old tires back on and sent me on my way.

Next shop I went tontold me they left a pair of pliers inside my tire lol.

Tires2U in South Austin will definitely do it. I would recommend going during a week day early otherwise they get really busy and you will have a wait.
