So, I just called to order some more contacts from the optemetrist.
The girl read the last 4 digits of my card on file, & I told her it had been closed & no longer valid.

Come to find out, they write the entire credit card number in the patients file to make it easier in situations like this.

I was a barely able to keep my composure, & told her in no uncertain terms that my CC number was NOT to be in my file.

If they also had the cvv written down they violated Payment card industry rules and could be fined a large chunk of change.

Is just anybody able to see the entire CC number?

ETA: I always pay those cash anyway.
It depends on the point of sale system. All businesses must be PCI compliant or face fines and increased fees. Chances are they could be easily hacked or employees could take the info. I would say a hack is less likely unless it is part of a big network just from a number of records perspective. Employees could be a concern, but they have all your info at the doctor anyway...

    I realize this.
I just wouldn't expect my CC number to be in my file, lol.
In this instance, ANYBODY looking could get my number.

The people that have access to that already have access to your SSN and address and birthday. What worries you more?

Let's don't bring any logic into this discussion.
It makes it more difficult to stay mad.

I would think most POS systems, once the card is saved, only show the last 4 digits and the expiration.
