Do you guys get to pick what you carry on duty? As long as it's within department specifications?
They issue you a gun at my department, but you have the option to purchase two other pistols. But your choices are Glock and Sig, and they must be in either 9mm or 357 Sig and be on the approved duty carry list.

Zxr9cam, I was just answering your question if he had other options, and I didn't know you had a crystal ball to determine his identity as I didn't mention his NAME in my first post! Excuse tha hell outta me!

Sorry to upset you, my initial comment/question was in regards to this statement....

    Now THAT"S funny!:green:

The model 19 was good enough for Bill Jordan
    .

I knew the answer to the question before I asked it.
It was more as a rhetorical question.

back in the day, and i mean WAAAY back, we were allowed to carry anything .38 spl or larger. nothing was issued. my sgt carried a mod 29 44 mag. lots of guys did. if it was good enough for dirty harry then why not! lots of pursuits ended when the tires were flattened by running over 44 cal "nails". it was actually fun being a cop back in the 70s and 80s

So the older cats tell me. A few retired guys on my department carried a few hand cannons.

Is there any particular reason why LEO in your department is limited to only sigs and glocks?
Not that I know of 100%. I am sure part of it is parts and armorer related. Before a certain date it was allowed to carry Berettas and a few other guns on the force. But after a certain date it had to be a Sig weapon or a private purchase Glock (and take a Glock transition course). Or you can get the Sig 320 and skip the course.

HK P30SK V1 LEM night sights in an Alien Gear IWB. Alien gear gun belt as well. In my limited carrying experience, I haven't tried many carry combos, but AG has pulled through for me. Very comfortable. The P30SK shoots like a full sized combat handgun.

If it is hot like now I usually carry a NAA 22 mag that has a collapsible butt that folds around and looks is like a holster so it is not noticeable at all in my pocket. I used to carry either a LCP or LC9S but I sold them to get a Sig P938 that I will be carrying in an IWB holster when the weather gets cooler. I find it no fun carrying a gun in a holster other than a pocket holster when you are sweating your butt off. I am still not used to this humidity here even though I have lived here 2 years.
