    iMac,

My understanding is that SOME of the criminals are in custody & other criminals are being sought.

    JeepFiend,

The DA in Durham, NC stated this AM that the arrested criminals will be tried for several serious felonies, will likely be convicted & sentenced to long terms of confinement.
(IF he's correct, that will "put a damper on" future vandalism/rioting, as 99% of people don't want to spend several years in the NC DoC.)

    yours, satx

I'll believe it when I see it. I'll wager dollars to donuts that they are plea bargained to misdemeanors and sentenced to community service. It will be done without any fanfare and never even reported.

I, unfortunately, must agree with you. When President Trump won the election in November, I felt our country had a new lease on life. I briefly had new hope that our country could be restored to the principles on which it was founded. After only slightly more than half a year, I again believe that is not to be. Washington is too full of politicians that are more concerned with losing their job than they are with losing a nation. Members of the party that nominated him are joining the Democrats and liberal media in piling on the President for what they believe to be mistakes he has made. When was the last time the Democratic leadership criticized Obama when he was President, or HRC when she was running for office. Please refresh my memory if you can remember an instance (as I said, I am getting old). All this gives the impression that the Republicans cannot govern, whether you believe they have legitimate concerns or not for dumping on the President. I fully fear the result will be the Democrats with their anti-American ideas will win back control of Congress in 2018 and continue flushing the principles of a country I deeply care for down the toilet. The Republican party has not shown the capability, or even the desire, to stop them. God bless America.

    RodKo40S&W,

Pity that you are CORRECT, though the DIMocRAT'S "leadership" in Congress is WITHOUT basic honesty/HONOR & have about the same chance as I do to be back in control of either House of the Congress in 2018 or for the foreseeable future.
(The DIMs are "on life support" in the minds of a majority of US voters.)

    pronstar,

Those CREEPS seem to be the SAME sort of CRIMINALS as the RADICAL EXTREMISTS that are involved with "the Antifas", in that both groups are semi-human GARBAGE wearing clothes.

    just my OPINION, satx

    On ISIS destroying artifacts:

    (CNN)
Confucius said: "Study the past if you would define the future." In Iraq, the past is glorious and long.

ISIS, like so many iconoclastic extremist groups through history, seeks to destroy the record of the past.

These objects are the material record of humanity. They are not just for scholars, they are for everyone. They are the text of the past that helps define our future.

What we need here is for some upstanding patriots to kick the ass of any rat bastard that is burning the American flag! These snowflakes are cowards of the first order and I doubt they would do anything about it except cry about their 1st amendment rights being violated. It's gonna get a lot rougher than that before this is all over.

I swear, I am happy to be on this forum. I got removed from a discussion on another forum, I dunno why. I think it's because I rudely called out another member for trying to put words in my mouth, but I dunno. I was one of very few conservatives posting any opinions and I get a little gripey and defensive.

I just saw that one VERY "progressive" member who I usually tango with started another thread about "what statues are in your communities?" Trying to seem all innocent but making the dig that 'so many she suspects do "glorify war." '

I just had to get out of there. Head about to explode. I think I don't enjoy debating and maybe am not very good at it. I am just needing to be with "like-minded" folks right now. Cannot handle the stress of "open discussion." Tired of it.

Doesn't help that for a living I have to help people wrangle their events and thoughts and emotions and behaviors and consequences and I'm supposed to be unbiased. Gah!

Thanks for letting me rant here guys. Like you had a choice haha.

    LOCKHART,

I have adopted family scattered from Mecklenburg County NC to south Spartanburg County SC.

Trust me: The "good 'ole boys/girls" of that area will FIGHT, if this sort of thing keeps happening. = The Radical Leftists had best DEPART those areas & SOON, if they would prefer to NOT be beaten to a pulp.

I don't like it either, but........

So you think violence is called for to protest an activity that courts have ruled is protected free speech? I believe that is called anarchy and hate to see it expoused here as it is no better than the violent antifa tactics.

Texas v. Johnson, 491 U.S. 397 (1989), was a decision by the Supreme Court of the United States that invalidated prohibitions on desecrating the American flag enforced in 48 of the 50 states. Justice William Brennan wrote for a five-justice majority in holding that the defendant Gregory Lee Johnson's act of flag burning was protected speech under the First Amendment to the United States Constitution. Johnson was represented by attorneys David D. Cole and William Kunstler.

If they bargain it down to community service, they should be fined the amount it would cost to restore the statue, and forced to serve the community service reconstructing it to its original condition. Additionally, they should all be given a rag and container of brasso and forced to polish all the other statues in town.

Fighting violence with swifter and stronger violence has always been the preferred method.

I am not saying it is legal but it does work.

You can sit and sing Kumbaya while these asshats burn your community down. I will take a different approach.

Except of course they are backed by the local, state, and federal government because you know, that whole Bill of Rights thing.

The bill of rights protects violent protest?

Violence against peaceful protest is abhorrent, but Dawico said violence against people destroying property. The legality of which would vary.

As far as flag burning, I don't see it being overturned anytime soon as the courts tend to err on the side of free speech (as they should with all rights). I despise flag burners as much as socialists and the KKK, but I'd rather courts not start ruling against speech and symbolism.

Im sure it's illegal to start fires on city streets and sidewalks though.

Look at the first 2 words of his post.

I read his post in full and it begins with a reference to combatting violence and ends with a reference to the destruction of s community. I saw no reference to violence against peaceful protest.

If you could point out where that happens we could have a reasonable discussion about it and I might be swayed. Telling me what I know will only give me an opportunity to point out the fallacy of your statement.

That's not what he was saying and you know it. He's advocating violence against those he disagrees with.
I hope you are not referring to me.

I completely advocate fighting violence with violence. I never said to get violent with peaceful protesters or those I disagree with.
