Maverick44
Youngest old man on TGT.
I want a new carry gun, especially since things will be cooling off soon and I'll be able to carry a larger gun. Right now, I'm carrying a Bersa Thunder Pro UC (specs below) and I like it. It's small, but I can still get a full grip on it. Holds 13+1 of 9mm, but I'm not a fan of the checkering on the plastic grips. It digs into my side pretty good and can get uncomfortable when I'm sitting for awhile.
There are two guns I'm really looking into. The FN 509 and the Sig P320 (specs below). Before anyone says it, I've already looked at Glock, not my thing.
Capacity wise and price wise, they are the same. Reliability wise, I've heard they are the same too. The FN is 2.5 oz lighter than the Sig, but that's not enough for me to consider it a deciding factor.
The FN and Sig are very close in size. The only real difference is that the Sig is about 0.6" longer than the FN. You get a 4" barrel with the FN, and a 4.7" barrel with the Sig. The Sig comes with night sights. and the FN comes with "luminescent" 3 dot sights.
Both are polymer, double action striker fire guns with similar trigger pull weights.
With the FN, the grips are relatively aggressive, but I don't think they would dig into my side like the sharp checkering on my Bersa does. The Sig's grips are not aggressive and only have some shallow texturing.
One more thing to add. I believe the Sig P320 is starting to be used by the Texas Highway Patrol. I'm wanting to become a trooper within a couple years, so it might be nice to already be familiar with the gun they're using now. That said, these two guns seem to be so similar that it might not matter much. I might have both by then anyway. If I could afford to buy them both right now, I probably would.
What do you guys think?
