my brother is visiting from NY where he is a NY State Trooper. He didn’t bring his gun with him and is wondering if he can CC one of mine. How does that work down here? He has his badge but the gun is mine so it’s not on his badge.
I know TX has reciprocity with NY but he doesn’t have a NY permit. He carries under his badge. So I wasn’t sure how the reciprocity worked and if it mattered he was carrying my firearm.
Very slim, I would think. What are the odds he would be hassled by Texas LEOs when they saw his credentials?
Exactly what I was thinking.Very slim, I would think.
This.OK he is a cop. He can figure it out
Without LTC, his carry is limited to LEOSA, which is not that great. But few get caught when violating it.

Are you saying an LTC carries more privileges than LEOSA?
Actually, it's the other way around. LEOSA trumps any state LTC regs, including TX. Only place where you can't carry would be a Federal Courthouse.

Not even close. Here is part of the restrictions:
Although LEOSA preempts state and local laws, there are two exceptions:
The laws of that state
1. Permit private persons or entities to prohibit or restrict the possession of concealed firearms on their property. So any private place that bans guns LEOSA cannot legally carry. LTC can carry there unless it is 30.06.
2. Prohibit or restrict the possession of firearms on any state or local government property, installation, building, base, or park. Well that is a metric shitload of places, and LTC gets to carry in almost every one.
