    In the woods...
I often have run -ins with a Bore. He is my son's father -in-law and the sumbitch could talk the ears off a donkey.

I usually excuse myself to go to the restroom and stay away long enough for him to move to his next victim.

I probably should have. I was also worried about scaring off any deer. But we didn't see any that day anyway...
Deer could probably smell you. Sounds like the wind was at your back likely. I don't deer hunt often, but hunt hogs regularly. I would not have stayed prone and would have immediately made myself noticeable if possible. They will usually take off. If not thats what the rifle is for.

I would have swung around and aimed at the hog, if he didn’t run off I would have fired. I carry a G20 (10mm) with 2 extra mags when hunting and I load them hot so I know I could stop a hog with a well placed shot. You were in a bad position and could have been hurt pretty bad if attacked. Invest $100 in a ground blind and $30 in a chair and you won’t be inthat position next time. Being seated is much better than prone.

    Yes I've had a run-in with a mild bore.
    When I met Dawico.
I was prone from falling asleep.
I admit to being very boring at the range. One ragged hole in the middle isn't very exciting.

On the other hand, you shooting is exciting. Where did that one hit? Did it even hit the target? Was that a blank? I didn't see dirt move on the berm. I think the neighboring target has a new hole.

Add in your favorite game of "what is that smell?" and it is very exciting.

No offense, but I would not worry about scaring off the deer. 1) your life comes first. 2) if you scare any deer, it was only the ones really close to you and in an hour's time that shot is ancient history in the deer's memory. 3) The hogs did more to scare off the deer than any shots you take.
