So which guns do you carry or recommend then and why do you like it over the Glock? And again, I'm seriously not trolling, really just trying to understand why others think the way they do.

I'm hardly a fan of Glock, not anymore then any other make of pistol I own. All my guns have been reliable and shoot true, so that about covers it for me, it just seems like their is so much hate for Glock and I'm trying to understand exactly why. If it doesn't fit your hand right or for some other mechanical reason it just doesn't work for you, I can understand that. Like I mentioned, Glock and the whole striker fired platform is pretty new to me and perhaps I am just missing something.
What fits YOU, and is reliable... handguns more than any other firearm are very personal. No 2 hands are alike, so I firmly believe there is no "perfect" handgun for everyone.
The first handgun I ever used was a high standard double-nine 22LR revolver... it was ok in my hand, and I still have it.
I fondled a target .22 i my youth, but never shot it. I got into rifles & marksmanship, and didn't own a handgun for more than a decade. Decided to get back into them and bought a RIA tactical in .45ACP I was decently accurate with it, but I went exploring- and sold it to fund that exploration. I had the double-nine back at this point, but was looking for more power. I fondled a couple dozen designs, fired a few that felt decent... wound up with a kel-tec P11 that fit decent, and I was pretty good with it despite the 9# trigger... that was my first carry piece (partially because I knew there was no way it was going to go off accidentally)... I sought more power and tried a P40 (40s&w version of P11) and that was the end of the envelope... good power, but rough to handle.

I kept trying other handguns (even a hipoint .45, and the Glock 20 was in that time- was the only Glock that somewhat fit my hands.. but still didn't point naturally)... then tried an M&P9c and it fit my hand like it was built for me... with the largest palmswell grip. I added a crimson trace grip (which is slightly larger) and I shot it maybe slightly better (even with the laser turned off). I currently carry an M&P40c with a great trigger and that same crimson trace grip laser. Also own an M&P45 full-size that I carry on my property with snake shot as the first 2 rounds.

So my advice to anyone is to try different handguns until you find one that fits you... you COULD train your ass off trying to make something work, or you could find one that fits you... If that's a Glock, good... just don't tell other people they're stupid if they don't run a glock too.

A $300 Rock Island Armory 1911 will shoot with the rest.

It’ll also encourage you to find money to buy a Colt.

I have actually owned a RIA and a Springfield. Just not a huge fan of the platform although Moonpie has some Colts(in 9mm) that I enjoyed shooting.

I always end up selling any 1911s I get in. Maybe that will change with time, as I use to do that with revolvers, but now I hang on to them

In my younger years I got rid of all my 1911’s for “better” guns. I considered them old school, and outdated technology. As I’ve gotten a little older, and hopefully a little wiser I have started replacing my previous pistols with 1911’s. Hell, even my EDC is a 1911.

It's because while their favorite SA is spitting the bit, that fugly gun just keeps shooting.

At least that's why I sold my 1911. Same box of ammo. By BIL and his Glock 21 are rapid firing. I'm clearing a jam every third round on my 1911.

I don't like plastic. Don't like they way they feel. Don't like the way they look. Seen too many Glock jams at the range. Don't like the trigger. Don't like the safety. Too many NDA's.

    Will stop there.

In my 40 years of shooting, I literally have never seen one single Glock jam. Conversely, pretty much every range trip I've seen a 1911 jam, usually a FTE. In spite of the meticulous care most 1911 owners give their weapons.

I'm no Glock fanboy. They are ugly, they are a square chunk of plastic. That shoots seemingly every single time.

If I had to be classified as a fan of a brand, it would be Sig. I like em a lot. Have owned half a dozen over the years.

But my two Glocks have worked like clockwork, in spite of the fact that I've never cleaned them. (It's kind of an experiment).

    Gunz are icky.
That's the nice thing about America.
    We have many choices.
Some like GLOCK. Some do not.
Go forth and be happy. Screw the haters.
GLOCK is a rugged, simple, accurate, reliable, affordable, AVAILABLE, handgun.
Personally, I do not care for GLOCK for various ergonomic and aesthetic reasons.
I DO like torqueing off the fan bois by talking shit about their PRECIOUS.

Many 1911's require a little bit of tweaking at first to run reliably.
Usually its the extractor and/or magazine.
Many manufacturers send them out with shit magazines to trim costs.
Tuning the extractor is quite simple.
Then you have to run the snot out of them to wear in the parts.
That said I have had a couple of very expensive 1911 that just flat ass would not run.
With any mass produced item you get a lemon now and then.

I had this problem with 1911s.
I discovered that, being left handed, I was inadvertently pushing on the slide release button on on the right side of the frame, and causing it to jam.

Think thats what turns me off. $800 Springfield and I have to go out and buy a slide release from wilson combat because its a known issue that the Springfield one sucks ass and they wont do anything about it short of sending you another slide release that doesnt work.

I can just spend $4-500 on a plastic fantastic that works out of the box. Do you ever see this issue with Colt 1911s like the 9mm chrome one you had at the meet?

Id buy one of those if I knew it was going to be rock solid out of the box

Honestly, I've had very good experiences with Colt 1911's.
Right out of the box they have all run well. They get better with use.
The "chrome" one you speak of is actually a polished stainless gun that originally came in 38Super cal.
Had it converted to 9mm by a local gunsmith years ago.
That gun has many many 1000's of rounds thru it.
Since then I have purchased Commander and Defender size Colt's and they all run well after a little break in time.
You shot the blued Commander at the fall meet up I believe.
I have had issues with Springfield, Auto-Ordnance, SIG, and other home built 1911's. Avoid A-O as if it has the plague.
I've never personally owned a Kimber but have friends who do and it seems they are hit and miss. Some report problems, some report superb performance so I dunno.
