"These days" is the operative phrase. I didn't expect and still do not consider it reasonable that she filed that complaint back in ~1984. We weren't supposed to be that touchy back then.
The secretary who was on that elevator was utterly shocked when she found out that the other woman had filed a complaint. So was I.

I once interviewed someone whose every 4th sentence was "I not lying to you." 9 out of 10 sentences he spoke during that interview were lies.
Yeah, that's a phrase that irks me no end when it's used to try to camouflage dishonesty. It's occasionally appropriate but those occasions are few and far between.

No, it was 1989 when I started working for the DOD and I remember many of the older guys saying that women have no place in the shipyard.
That ties into another phrase that makes me mad.
"Women are bad luck."
I actually got up and walked out of a cash poker game once when a female player showed up and the guy running the game threw a fit. He said that to even have a woman in the room when poker was played was bad luck for everyone and he wouldn't stand for it. He threw her out of his house.
I told the guy he was an ass and left, too. I was never invited back to that game. What really irked me is that the guy who brought the girl actually stayed to play when his girl was kicked out.
That situation was screwed up in a dozen ways.
They often shorten it to "no lie".
Well, if she stayed with the guy after that then she's screwed up too. Nothing gets my ire up faster than abuse to women and children, but when a woman sticks up for a man after abuse I am just perplexed.

I have a WORSE story than that. = Believe it or NOT, I had a "formal sexual harassment complaint" made against me, when I was the Provost Marshal of a VA Army post.
I arrived at the office one Monday morning about 0700 to be told by my Desk SGT that I was "to report immediately to the Post Commander".
When I arrived at his office, his secretary said, "Go right in. He 's waiting on you with the complainant."
After reporting to the Post CDR, he said, "Stay at attention. This is to inform you that this lady. Ms. W__________ has filed a formal complaint against you for sexual harassment."
"He paused & then said, "I suggest that you consult a JAG officer immediately, as this is 'Conduct Unbecoming an Officer' if you are proven guilty at a Courts Martial."
Then he said, "You are dismissed."
I turned around & realized that I had never even seen the woman, much less harassed her.
About 5 minutes later, I was in the JAG office & awaiting a JAG having time to speak with me.
(A young VAARNG JAG officer came out of an office & said, "I've been notified of this accusation by the Post CDR's AA. I can see you at 1300 & we'll sort this out. I'll be tied up until 1245." - Still essentially in shock, I said, "See you are 1300." & returned to my office.)
On the walk back to my office, I saw several people that I know & all of them expressed their shock/sadness that I was "in trouble with the Boss".
(News travels fast on a small post.)
ALL of them wanted "details". I doubt if many of them believed me when I said, "I know nothing about this.".
At 1300, I arrived at CPT Willard R_________ office, was immediately shown into his office, the clerk closed the door & CPT R said, "While you were gone I did some checking & I have both good & bad news for you.
Your accuser doesn't know your name, so you must not be associates BUT she has picked your photo out of a group of similar-looking men."
Then he said, "OK. I'm your lawyer as of now, so tell me all about this situation. Anything that you tell me is confidential."
I said, "Captain, the first time that I ever, to my knowledge saw the woman was in the COL's office about 0730 today. I wasn't even told anything but her last name."
He said, "You're kidding, RIGHT??"
I said, "I've never seen the woman to my knowledge, don't know her at all, not even her first name & the only time that I remember seeing her at all was when the COL said that she had accused me of sexual harassment & 'Conduct Unbecoming'."
He then said, "Does the name Elizabeth Lynn W________________ sound familiar to you??"
I said, "No, except the last name is the same as what the COL said that the woman's last name was."
"Well that's her name & she's a GS7 in the Post G4 shop."
Then he said, "If you cannot think of anything else about this, perhaps I can fix it before the whole thing 'blows up in our faces'. I'll call you tomorrow after 0900. Your post number is, XXXXX is it not?? Also. don't talk to anyone about this. - Let me handle it."
I said "OK. I'll wait on your phone call in the AM." and returned to work.
(I did tell my wife about it.)
Just before 0900 (and after a sleepless night) I got a call from my lawyer, who said, "Well, I believe that I can promise that this is going no farther & by 1700 today I hope to have an apology in writing from your accuser."
He then said, "I've got to come over to the PMO after a few minutes to register my wife's new VW & I'll tell you more then. Quit worrying."
About 20 minutes later he came into my office, poured himself a mug of coffee & sat down on my couch.
He first said, "I'm impressed. I had my wife's new car registered almost before I arrived. - Your POV clerk is really fast. - Not like Ft Bragg at all."
Then the CPT said, "This is the most peculiar 'possible misbehavior' case that I've been assigned lately. Here's what I found out yesterday afternoon, evening & a bit more this morning.. Ms. W________ said that the only time that she's ever seen you was in the check-out line at the PX Snack Bar last Friday about 1800. She was behind you in the line to pay for her food & according to her written statement, she thought that you thought that she looked like a whore."
He then said, "When she admitted that you said nothing at all to her, I knew that you had nothing to worry about, unless she can read minds."
Fwiw, that was the end of that, though I never got a written apology from my accuser..

I assume not since you say you never saw her before the morning meeting.
There are many worse stories than anything I've ever endured. I'm very close to a former EEO investigator who saw it all, from lying accusers who could never tell the same story twice to truly awful executives who seemed to delight in ruining lives just because of someone's skin color or sexual orientation.
An infamous person once asked "Can't we all just get along?" I'm convinced there are some people who do their very best, all the time, to make sure that no one ever gets along with anyone else.

Nope. - The ONE time that I saw her in the post CDR's office, she looked like a rather ordinary-looking 40-ish woman, who was then wearing a black/white pants-suit.
I still don't know, 20+ years later, why she decided to accuse a stranger of sexual harassment.
