Your already a Gerber guy. I love my Paratrooper Skeleton. Flips open as easy and quick as an auto, sharp as heck, easy to close perfect length and weighs absolutely nothing. Its my EDC for tearing up at work.I have a Gerber auto knife but it is too large for her.
Recommendations for a good, American made auto knife are appreciated. My wife is very petite so it does need to be an appropriate size for her.
Dang it, I love that. Wish I hadnt clicked on itMy EDC is a ZT 0770 carbon fiber, very light and opens as easy as any auto knife:

In fact this price is about $20 cheaper then when I bought mine over 4 years ago:

Buck 110. It's 440A with a special heat treat. It'll take a scary edge but it'll shatter like glass. Iconic knife and they offer it in other steels. Don't go standard unless you're careful with the knife.

Not sure how far a Cabelas or Bass Pro is from you, but they usually have a good selection to look at. Their prices will probably be higher though.I like that just for the classic lines.
I like that one, I'm gonna definitely put that on the list for her, price is good too. I need to find somewhere I can play with some of these to get a feel for them.
I bought one of these several years ago and like it. It's cheap enough that if it breaks or I lose it, it's not a big deal. It holds an edge pretty good and is lightweight due to it's aluminum handle. The black paint is about worn off the handle but I don't care. It always works when I push the button.Hard to beat the Boker Kalashnikovs for price and quality.
This is the mini - 2.5” blade.

Wow! I misunderstood the OP intent. I thought he wanted to get a knife then give the knife to his wife but you're saying....I sent you a PM with an offer for a knife for your wife.
I love these threads. Auto knives are over rated in my opinion and many are not ambidextrous. I would look for a flipper type opening, ball bearing action, with a 3.25-3.5in. Blade. Bonus if it is a frame lock. I wouldn't get too caught up in the steel but I am partial to D2 or AUS8. Spear point is my favorite type but clip point is ok. Tanto point would be my last pick even though I own several I like. G2 handle is popular but Aluminum or titanium is ok too. You do not want a smooth handle. My wife would like a knife in her vehicle. I want her to have an auto knife but I'm not familiar with many. I have a Gerber auto knife but it is too large for her.

I love these threads. ............................
Now given those parameters, have her pick what is comfortable for her. After that, go over basics of stabbing, cutting, and slashing. Some people get squeamish with the blood and being so close so that is something to discuss as well. Make sure it is clipped to her attire where she can access it. Throwing it in the purse is a terrible idea. I always recommend carrying it in hand when in transitional spaces (which is just as fast as drawing a fixed blade). My wife ended up choosing a Kershaw Blur but rarely carries it despite my reminder.
Yes, I am a knife nut and also Meskin so consider me an expert.

Here's one brand.

Most models come in two sizes. One large and the other smaller. See if she likes Benchmade.
