Why? FB is a declining market.
Yes. But Apple, Microsoft, Alphabet and a thousand more are pushing all the levers behind the scenes to move the world toward a progressive, socialist future.

The bad guys are pervasive and in control. The alternatives are, well, kinda pitiful. I'm not willing for freedom to be relegated to the periphery of life, able to be exercised only when it doesn't offend the woke notions of righteousness that exist in the minds of the people currently in charge of the technologies that nearly everyone uses to live their life.

THEY ARE TURNING THE FRICKEN FROGS GAY

Anyone can take the questionable or debatable or poor taste videos or texts of any journalist or news organization, ignore everything else and present that as who they are.
I can present videos of major journalists and news organizations, promoting or justifying, one war after another, based on reasons, which later turned out to be total fabrications, but cost the lives and limbs of patriotic Americans.
There will never be a perfect journalist or media organization, but some journalist and media organizations, have a better track record than others.
Similarly, there will never be a perfect human being, but some humans are better people than others.
In any society, the more voices you have, inspite of their shortcomings, the better.
You can not get all the information, you need from one or a few new organization. News organizations that depend on revenue from certain industries, may be reluctant to report on issues involving that industry, even when people's lives are at stake.
I could go on and on, but I hope you get the point.

Certainly, but in my experience it's getting harder to find different angles. Sometimes in doing a search you have to go through many pages to get opposing points of view.

That's certainly true on Google, which makes no real effort, despite their protestations to the contrary, to be neutral in the way it presents information. The first few pages will be either paid ads or hits that satisfy their algorithms, algorithms that take into account perceived political bias. If it ain't left, it gets pushed down the list.

It's also true for many other search engines that basically do nothing but repackage what they get from Google.

Yeah, but if he was using MY platform, and I was running it as a business, I'd actually be fine banning him as well.
The question is though, do you allow others that act similarly? Or is it just because you don't like him as a person?

The whole speech is useful, though I wish he were a better speaker.

However, on the topic of censorship by private entities, there's a bunch to chew on in this speech. He specifically addresses regulating private entities at 31:40.

It's worse than that. If you're talking on the phone and make a racist remark, should the phone company forward that information to the electric utility so that the electric utility will cut off your power because you're a bad person and the electric company doesn't want to do business with bad people?

    That's where we're headed.

Side note - People who don't think this stuff has real-world applications have their head in the sand. Yes, I know it's the government acting in this case but to show you the potential of social media de-platforming or censorship, consider the case in China.

The Chinese have released a new app that alerts you if there is anyone within 500 feet of you who is in debt. It identifies them to you and suggests that you hunt them down, publicly confront them, and shame them for being in debt.

Private entity debt collection is being facilitated via social shaming facilitated by the government. In the real world.

Technology doesn't stay contained by national borders. That tech will find its way here, in some form, sooner rather than later.

Please show where AT&T can't drop you.
AT&T can't drop you because they don't like your politics.

You can look this up in a thousand places but, from the National Consumer Law Center, in a public-domain document, here's the gist of it:
Courts and state legislatures have long recognized that access to public utility service is a basic necessity in modern society. Public utilities are those utilities like electricity, natural gas, water and local phone service that serve the general public. Public utilities have a “duty to serve.” This means that utilities must provide service to any member of the public living within the utility’s service area who has applied for service and is willing to pay for the service and comply with the utility’s rules and regulations.
Internet service and communications platforms hosted on the internet are already, effectively, public utilities. All the friction on this issue is due to the fact that the law has yet to catch up with reality.

That's an interesting argument. One could argue these are not good comparisons as the former telephone companies are quasi government monopolies with high barriers to competition.

    But it's an interesting argument.

    But it's an interesting argument.

One could easily argue the same of modern social media platforms. The barriers to competition are obviously extremely high due to massive corporations from banking to telecom which operate using government built infrastructure working together to deplatform and defund any competition. Meanwhile they use their power to censor speech they dislike.

And it’s nearly impossible to say banking isn’t a government backed monopoly. We even paid to keep the banks from going under not too long ago.
