I was wondering about having guns in your vehicle.
Sometimes when I go to the range, I'll have 5 or 6 different riffles and 3 or 4 different hanguns in my truck. Since the range is 30 miles from my place, I sometimes stay all day. Any guns I need to shoot will be taken along for the ride.
The handguns will all be covered by something or in the open, but inside the origional gun case. A lot of times the rifles will just be pilled up in the back seat. A few of them might be in a case, but the AR and shot gun will just be in the open.
Does anybody know if there is some BS law about how many gun you can transport in a vehicle, I really never thought about it till know..

I happened to be with a coworker at lunch watching the news about someone being pulled over with an "arsenal" of five guns and 3k rounds of ammo. He made the off hand comment of why would someone need all those guns.

Every time I travel where to I'm going to go shooting I think of that news story and how easy it'd be to get pulled over and seen in such circumstances. Heck that's just a few 500 round bulk packs of 22lr.

It's not illegal. Just hope the news crew isn't on a ride along that day with the PD.

Does the law differ if you put your guns in the uncovered bed of your truck?

I wouldn't think it would, but I wouldn't want to be pulled over when there are guns stacked almost up to the top of the bed.

Back in 70's I used to ride to the woods 6 blocks with my friends. One hand on the bike handlebars and a .22 or .410 in the other. Ohio 11th largest city, Lorain, and i lived 1 block from central park. No-one cared.

Sounds like a great way to lose some guns. But you shouldn't be breaking any laws if they're long guns. Handguns have to be concealed. But that's not to say you wont get pulled over/arrested.

I have the assumption that there exists some stupid cops and getting arrested for a perfectly legal activity is always a possibility, but especially when it comes to something like driving around in a truck full of long guns. Not saying all cops are stupid, just that some are and that it's a possibility that you could happen across one.

I agree, because im the example. I get arrested for all kinds of stupid shit. The last time was earlier this year, for having a gun in my pocket while I was in my vehicle. Then for throwing a beer can back inside some dudes car window that threw it out in front of my place, " They said it was assault", " I said it would never happened if it didnt fly out his window in the first place"..

So yea, im aware of people getting arrested for BS that aint worth it!! This is a big problem in Texas. Legislatures laws are not just laws..

All of my stuff is either in a case or gear bag. Nothing is out in the open for anybody to see.

I got arrested because the cop 'wanted to teach me a lesson'. His exact words.
