I stated life as a Damn Yankee, being born on Pennsylvania. Moved to Texas in the late 70's. Got married and had a could of kids. Then work moved me to California. When the wife retired we relocated to the Hill Country, ancestral home for her since 1850. Anyway we like it here, and no one gives me grief about having lived in California. They all laugh at me for being there for 30 years.

We love it in Texas and all the folks we have met are very nice.

    Fishkiller,

Being from the North does NOT make you a DAMNYANKEE any more than it makes you blond/brunette/redheaded/black-haired/bald.

Being a DY is a LEARNED PREJUDICE, just as being a HATER of any ethnic/religious group IS. = NOBODY was born a BIGOT.

FYI, a DAMNYANKEE is a HATER of people, who happen to be from the South/SW, & have INCULCATED a belief that where a person was born/lives/was educated automatically means that they are NATURALLY INFERIOR to people from North of the Mason-Dixon line.

Then you've not been around Jews very much.

You're entitled to your opinion but that hardly means it is the stead fast truth.

    Coiled,

Fyi, I went to boarding school with numerous Jews (My late roommate at the academy was from Alamo Heights, devoutly Jewish & his mom sent us WONDERFUL Kosher food every time that Ronnie went home for a holiday. = Her 2" thick Sephardic-style pizza was "to die for", btw.) & graduated from the university in Arkansas where most AR Jewish kids went to school. I leased a large house in Arkadelphia with a Jewish guy for 6 semesters & later with his GF (They got married in the Summer between Junior & Senior year.). = YEP, I know a GREAT many Jews & don't know a single person from TX/AR/the South, who is a HATER of Jews.
(Do you actually KNOW any Anti-Semites, who are Southerners??)

My brother married a Russian Jew. His wifes grandfather was orphaned in China escaping the Germans. A few years later it was discovered he had family in America so they took him in. He changed his name to an "American" name. He later joined the Military & flew a Bomber in the Korean war. And I'm his years after service would mentor soldiers thru the VA process helping them get benefits.
He was one of the most patriotic men I have ever met.
I'll always remember him giving me a rash of crap for not filing with the VA.

He spoke Russian, Chinese and English.

    mad88minute,

Presuming that he has "BEEN PROMOTED TO ETERNAL GLORY", due to old age, may he REST in PEACE. = He has earned his just reward, imo.

I'm a native Texan, born in Texas City. Imho Texan is a state of mind, how you conduct yourself, how you think and the things you hold dear.

Texan can't be learned, it has to be felt, in you to your very bones. There is no relativism, no shades of gray, it is absolute.

A Texan can smell a poser from a mile and despise those who would undermine our Great State through subterfuge, through action or inaction contrary to the values that make Texas the envy of the world.

    Be Texan or be gone.

We had some friends go to Australia, they were sitting in a bar chatting with the bartender talking about where they're from and the tender called them Yanks. Not knowing that that was an offensive term to southerners. Some New Yorkers strolled in and some time later started to tell them how they needed to do things instead of having a conversation. Our friends turned to the tender after the yorkers left and said," those are the fing Yanks. They got a kick outta that.

No not all, not sure where got those def's but not the case.

damnyankees, is anyone who moves or comes to the South from the North, especially the upper NE. It's a play on words. Yanks is a term pertaining to all American people, the NE labeled itself as YanKEES going back to the revolutionary war days.

I have lived up N and in the NE and never heard or thought they hated Southern people, rather they think of us as a bit crude and more country rather than the sophistication of the North. By the same token, they see Texans as cowboys, we all own horses and live on ranches.

I grew up with that term which goes back to the post Civil war days when peddlers from the N came down to the South to sell their wares and goods. Damnyankee was just a light-hearted term to describe people from the Northern states.

You are assigning definition and weight to it that is not and has never been a part of it.

Yes,but nobody cares how close to the commies you are. Having Texas in the center of Alaska is just wishful thinking.
I believe Texas is closer to the commies than Alaska is. Remember who the president of the neighbor to the south is.

I believe that was to show how big Alaska is by putting the second largest state in the center.

Ice doesn't count, if you thawed it out probably wouldn't be much bigger than Arkansas.
What are you saying? Do you believe that most of Alaska is like the north pole? I will agree that much of it is permafrosted, but there is land under that ice. They don't measure ice as land mass.
