I wonder why people watch basketball. Kind of like hockey and NASCAR why? :beat:

I am probably in the minority here........but, I also wonder why adults wear jerseys of pro teams? They are pro athletes making big money and that's all they care about. I wear a UT shirt now and again because I graduated from the university, but no pro jerseys for me......not my heroes.....don't espouse my values.

What's worse is their facilities are heavily funded by tax money / bonds.

I've never understood fandom of any kind, always figured the intense interest in sports was really due to gambling. Then I ran into some folks I thought were sane whose lives are consumed by fantasy football. Maybe there's a gambling angle to that as well. People can't possibly have time for completely useless spectator things. Loyalty to a team ? Nuts.

And coaches. Geez, some go on to become politicians and/or pedophiles.

I was big into sports when I was a kid. Like super heroes, I grew out of it. Part of it is that I have better things to do now. I also athletes personal lives started to overshadow the game.

"Another rich liberal making sure his minions will keep making him good money once the whatever-ball season comes back to life."
No different then Mav owner. It's just about $$ folks. When most of the 'team' is 'other', you don't go making waves.
Never did enjoy just watching any 'sport' but golf does show the individual skills. No, I don't play.
If college and pro sports went away, so what? Course the venders, etc would need to find another occupation. Never could see why food courts at the state fair drew such crowds, she cooks better than most. Will admit only been once in the early 70s.

It would seem as if some people in here use to get beat up by jocks and shoved into lockers. Sports were a large part of being a kid for me. I am totally on board about these players just shutting the **** up and playing ball, but sports are a large reason why our country has become so successful. For so many here to say they don't care or watch it, it is hard to believe that you even know who these people are. Shouldn't you just be saying, "who"?

Even if you don't follow a particular ball sport, many of the players are celebrities of sorts, and many do commercials. When one of them opens their mouth to speak about something political, or that is controversial subject, people around you that do follow that sport usually tell you about it. Or they happen to be in the knews doing something illegal of their own!

I played baseball and football as a kid.
It was enjoyable enough but I gave up watching sports when I felt the games were fixed. That was over thirty years ago. I couldn’t tell you who won the last super bowl much less care.

Same here. I played football and baseball in jr.hight and the first part of high school, but working part-time and part of one of my classes, I had to give up sports, plus I knew I would bever even be good enough at college level, and not a snowball's chance in hell at the pro level!

If I watched any sports on TV, it was usually some sort of racing. Just didn't care for any ball sports except for baseball, and I usually listened to it on the radio.

    To All,

Inasmuch as I don't watch "bounce-ball" at all & watch football only if The Horns, the Cowboys or my prep school is playing, my lady is always pleased to "get dressed up FANCY" & go out of eat at a NICE restaurant when the games are on.

I always DO watch the better horseraces, IF the races are broadcasted on TV.

You can get reservations & GREAT SERVICE at any place during the "Super Bowl".

    yours, satx

Who’s fault was it when we had race riots during the Obama years?

I put that squarely on the shoulders of Obama himself. Didn't he say that Trayvon Martin could have been his son?

Obama had a historic opportunity to decrease the racial division in this country, but instead, in many ways further widened that divide.
