Just wondering if i can get a clarification on speed limit signs.
My question is... where does the speed limit sign speed get enforced?
Are speed limits enforced from where the sign is posted or line of sight from where you first see the speed limit sign?

    Thanks for your help!

I am not an LEO, but as a civilian and a driver I would hope it starts at the point of the sign itself.

However, from a Traffic Engineer standpoint (me) the regulated speed applies from the nearest (previous) intersection in urban areas. Typically MUTCD R2-1 (Speed Limit) signs are placed 150 to 250' beyond the previous signal/intersection depending on the posted speed.

Yep got pulled over... bullshit ass Chief of Police in Coffee City.

I was coming up 155 from Frankston, was through there this past weekend so i know there is a speed trap there... it goes from 70-55 before you cross Lake Palestine. I was coming over the hill around the bend & hes sitting a few hundred feet before the bridge & the 55mph sign is at the bridge.

I was slowing down as i come around the bend towards the bridge ... hes sitting in the median as i come up to him ... a couple hundred feet he flash his rear lights as i come up to him at about 57mph, when i was at the bridge i was doing 50, then he jumps behind me & i set my cruise control @ 55mph.

Once we cross the bridge he lights me up & i pull over. I asked why he pulled me over, he said 60 in a 55. I was like how was i speeding when slowing down wayyyy before the bridge because i was through here this past weekend & know this area is a speed trap.
He was like.... "i dont know what speed trap your talking about". I call bullshit on that lying POS. Its 70 before & after the bridge & the bridge is 55mph.

Im going to court to fight it. My daughter was in the truck with me and when he flashed his rear lights when we were coming up on him she looked at my speedometer & seen was going 57-58 as we passed him before the bridge.
There was no possible way i was speeding before i crossed the start of the bridge where the sign was marked 55mph.

Had CHL... Hes the type of cop that gives cops a bad name.
I will never spend one penny of my $$$ in Coffe City & ill tell all my friends the same.

EZ-E, since Coffee Landing burned down some years ago, (it was right close to that bridge. the sign is still there next to the road.) hardly any reason to stop in Coffee City. CL was one of the best seafood restaurants for miles!

My GPS changes at the sign pretty much. Bet you don't win in court. You are just a source of income. Probably not worth contesting.

Spoke with my son-in-law he's a LT with a local PD, a long time ago about radar guns and he said, even after being calibrated, can be 2 mph off high and low of your actual speed.

    60 in a 55 is garbage anyway.

Good luck in Court. My experience is if the cop is a no show you get off, happened once to me. I was in BFE Nevada going 70+ back in the double nickel days. Anyway cop pulls me over writes out ticket. I get the court date and schedule work in the area. Since I had a CA DL and it was in Elko, NV I guess cop never figured I would show. No cop, no fine you are good to go.

**** that im have my day before the judge. I should have never been pulled over because i wasnt speeding before the speed limit sign on the bridge.

Unless things have changed, if you are going to fight the ticket, you will have to plead not guilty, and post a bond. Usually the bond is the same as the ticket. Go before the judge, and plead your case. As mentioned, if he doesn't show up, the case is usually dismissed.

Worst case scenario, if you lose they just stick you with the fine for the ticket.
