bbbass,
FYI, a lot of us wild/rebellious Texicans call Austin "Little Moscow". - Actually, in some ways Austin is politically to the LEFT of Moscow.
yours, satx
I find that rather odd, or funny, but we lived in and around Austin for many years, in fact my younger brother was born in Austin, and not once over the years have I ever heard anyone refer to Austin as "Little Moscow". I wonder why?
Axxe55,
I don't know that answer, as that "nickname" was commonplace among PATRIOTS when I lived there.
I sometimes think of Austin as PEKING, East.
(Otoh, I would bet that PEKING never had a MALE candidate for MAYOR, who campaigned in a ballet TUTU.)

AXXE55,Well, my family were only 4th generation Texans and not 8th generation like you and your family, so that must explain it I guess. Probably not as patriotic as you and your family either.

Well thank God it ain't going to happen. Someone like you would probably throw myself and many of my family members out of Texas because we were not born here if you were on some stupid Texas citizenship board!
I'm glad that you think of yourself "qualified" to make such determinations and decisions about people's lives. I sure really thought you'd be the leading general of the Texican Military Forces!
Bush did that as President. He claimed that he would move to TX.AXXE55,
I don't guess that it makes much difference how long a person has been IN Texas, as my MUCH LOVED/ADOPTED adult daughter (NOEMI) is a MAYA Indian from Acapulco/Mexico City & "came to our family" as a teenager, = She thinks of herself as a true TEXAS WOMAN & BLEEDS BURNT ORANGE, just as I do.
NOTE: My lady reminded me late last night of a Texas public law that I once knew about but had forgotten.
(The Texas government has done some "truly peculiar" things over the years.)
PERHAPS one need NEVER even cross our borders to LAWFULLY CLAIM to BE Texican, as a law from the 1880s states that "Texas residency" is defined as , "DECLARING INTENT TO RESIDE IN TEXAS" & "at some future date"..
(YES, "Texican" is the legal spelling, by act of The Congress from 1837 of the RoT.)

Went thru ABQ in about 20 min sunday night. I'll see if I get thru faster on my way back. Had to stay there 2 times in my life. Almost the worst city I've been in
So out here in west Texas our capital is in central Texas? To All,
Some 25 years ago there was some HALF-serious talk about splitting TX up into FIVE STATES, to get a net increase of 8 US Senators, who would vote PRO-American: NORTH (Capitol in Bonham), SOUTH, (Capitol in Rockport), CENTRAL (Capitol in West), EAST (Capitol in Lufkin) & WEST (Capitol in Ranger).
Ownership of Gonzales, Goliad, San Jacinto & The Alamo was to be shared by ALL of the 5 States.
(All of the talk, of course, came to ZILCH.)

For all its drawbacks, if the US truly turns socialist, I will be willing to face the temporary hardships and work through the complications and problems. From a realistic standpoint, what would it take for Texas to secede the Union? What are the obstacles? What are the logistics? What are the long term problems we would face as a state? Would other states, or even other countries take us seriously if it happened? Would they trade, or deal with us? What problems would residents face if they needed to travel outside of Texas? What about politicians getting on board and supporting this? What about people that wanted to move to Texas?
Personally, I do like the sound of it. I have heard this for many, many years, and it sounds good in theory, but I have many doubts of it actually working in reality. I see many more complications and problems, and many downsides than upsides.
Agreed; should be easier to get a large group on board especially compared to the alternative...the boogaloo. For all its drawbacks, if the US truly turns socialist, I will be willing to face the temporary hardships and work through the complications and problems.
